Thats pretty much what Mercury Racing calls a 600SCi or 700SCI (depending mostly on boost). The 2006-2007 29's with 600SCi's ran 82-84 mph on gps. Most had 30P Bravo props leaving the factory. I don't think they sold one with a 700 because of the transmission changing the cg of the boat too much, from what I remember. :party-smiley-004: |

Well if you want to Whipple a 525, I can point you in the right direction. About 850hp on pump gas is what he's getting. That would put that boat well into the 90's. That would be fun but expensive to convert and maintain. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I would think 850hp on pump gas would be Ballanced rotating assemblsy w better rods, JE style blower pistons and Roller cam set up w about 700 lift if my calculations are correct. A stock 502 or 510 would make more like 575 HP with a whipple. I think a 600 or 700 mercruiser would again have better internals. In my humble opinion. I think he is thinking of bolting something on. He has alrerady had the motor done. Racerngr1 I'm still thinking you should be able to make 80 with the right supercharger set up. You will have to change the prop too. -Chad |
there was one at texoma labor day w/ quad whipple said it dynoed 1400hp was fast.

03 29 Fever with twin 377 Scorpions and 1,65:1 gears, 32p Bravo 4-blades with extra cupping turning in and give a max speed of 82 on GPS. I get 5400 rpms with these props. And the same with 30" props, but get only 79...
Seems like a single 525 EFI givesthe best speed andreliability for the money...? Fun to dock the twin configuration though... Yes, 29 fountain must be one of the kind of boats that you fell in love with.... I LOVE mine and has 400 houres on it since 2006 even the boat is a 2004 MY. Has ayone seen a 29 with twin 377 Scorpions before? Am I the only one who have that? WHY is the 29 3 mph faster than the 27??????????????? |
I just bought 98 29 with 577 bulldog, 634 hp runs 72 or73 28 labbed left hand. Get this with a 2 inch spacer in the drive. Order new studs to put the drive were it should be. I will let everyone know. Riggs marine built the engine said if I take the 2 inch spacer out, the top two hole in the water pickup will suck air. Anyone heard of such a thing
|
Never heard of puting a 2 inch spacer in to prevent it. They used to come from Fountain the top 2 holes with allen head set screws threaded in to prevent it.

Not sure if he's changed pistons or not. It's already a lower compression motor since it runs on 87. The next time I get to hang around him, I'll ask. I do know he's got a plan to get over 1200hp on race gas later on down the road. He had to convert them to open cooling in the process. Here's a pic of an early incarnation from the "evil genius". |

When I was in the market for mine, I was eyeballing a twin scorpion machine that was in Jax, Fl, but I wanted the single because of the weight difference as the singles fly perfectly level in bigger water. Anything with Scorpions is few and far between. (rare) The 29's are faster because they are a different hull than the 27's. A much bigger step on the 29's picked its bow up out of the water then the "pseudo" step that was on the 27. Hence 3 mph more from a hull weighing more. |
