I don't KNOW, but I would think the boat might be slower with a short lower unit, but what I would think would be the real thing on that boat is a IMCO set-back extention (to increase the bow lift) and run a bit less positive trim, which gives better ride over big wakes. (and get the same bow lift as before)

My emediate thought though... Anybody have any experience with this???

Let me know if you test something out.

Don;t know what year your 27 is, but I owned a 97 27 and put a 2' shorter imco on it and had problems. It also handled worse!! went back to the bravo.

In recent yrs fountain has spent a lot of time on an aggressive x dimension for highest speed.......thus our boats already have as high an X as you probably want to go. The shorty lower will most likely cause you problems. If you do it you will need a 5 blade to get on plane...and that will not be the end of your issues. Your best bet is to spend money on engine stuff and lab your current 4 blade. The current drive set up is about as good as your going to get. I get 68.6 GPS with two guys, flat water, and 1/4 tank....with rpms to go. Never gone for highest speed more than once. 69 shouldnt be an issue.

Don't do it..the added weight from sweating and gold necklaces tend to slow you down.

My best was 73gps with a 24L running 500hp in a '99 ..not sure if that helps though.

There is a guy here who had a 27 Fever with 502 EFI. It ran about 70, but he wanted more speed. Put on a procharger and all new internal parts. also changed liners so now he has about 540 CID if I remember right. The engine pumps out about 800 hp on a dyno and the boat did around 87 mph. He put on a 2" shorter IMCO lower unit and got about 4 mph. It seems like the boat can handle a shorter lower IF it is running so fast that the wind lifts the bow enough so the boat fies over the water. Then it do not need as much "upwards-trim" anymoe. But of course, with 800 hp and much torque, the drive broke... It had XR gears.

But it was one hell of a fun boat when it worked they said!!

how bout 86+ with a single natural but with only 600hp?

1.65 gearset, labbed bravo 4 blade 34 pitch from BBlades.

Tried lots of props so far. Most Fountains like 4 blades in this horsepower range. Tested a stock 5 blade Maximus. Ran 56.3mph at 2900!! Problem is the maximus "feels" pretty abnormal at least for me. Bow heavy, harder porposing, but ran about 75 with my last HO525.

Never tested it with 600.

So far, I've tried 28, 30, 32, 34, all bravo 4 blades. Maximus 30 5 blade. And a cleaver 3 blade but forgot what the pitch was. It would not plane.

Cheers -
