Advice on a 42'
Thinking about buying this boat...any thoughts (good or bad!).

42 foot boats, 700 HP engines, and bravo type drives don't stay together long. It's been tried over and over and over and the drives dont last. That is why Mercury finally spent big bucks to devolop their NXT drive.
Nice boat, nice engines, just be prepared to buy drives by the gross. |
i wanted that one too. looks nice was tripple been converted to twins building the same thing now at home.

nice looking boat, good touch with the new style windshield, those are not cheap.
Good luck; Jay |
I would agree with Marginmn in respect to the HP vs Bravos. On a 35 you might get away with 700 and Bravos, not a good deal on the heavier 42. The other thing that plays into this is that with the 42 you can, and will just because you can, run harder in bigger water and the constant load - unload of the drive will crush it. We all say we plan to take it easy on things so they stay together, but then the fun factor of going fast kicks in and poof goes the drive. Been there done that, ain't fun. Did three in one week some years ago.
Boat looks good, I would check the converted from a triple deal out. But you could turn the boost down, make 600 hp, or so, and be happy if the speed is not a real big deal. You will likely be ok as long as you keep them checked and serviced. Why not look into the 99 42 they have with 500s, not as fast but far more reliable, or the newer 42 EX they have. |
I think it looks like a really nice package personally. I don't have much experience in the bigger boats, but I think those Konrads deserve a little more credit then people are giving them. How many hundreds of 42's are out there with B1XR's.
I would say that do to the weight of the 42 the drives won't last as long due to the extra weight but alot will depend on where you boat, driving habbits, etc... |
i would buy it if i had the coin, o imeant cash all i have left is coins:eek:

I have 72 hours on a 40' heavy conventional v-bottom with 700HP engines. In addition, Im not running couplers, im running a direct drive shaft and to top it off, 5 blade props. Im doing everything that is said to be "bad". I change the gear lube like socks, but I have yet to have drive problems. I realize the fountain has a higher X and may unload them more often.
Im running IMCO drives. I wouldnt fear this boat too much as long as the conversion from 3 to 2 is clean. |
Big motors and bravos would not be my first choice.

Would anyone buy it and then upgrade them???? If so, what would you go to???
