Jeff is right. The 42 lightning is hands down one of the 3 best if not the best handleing V bottom period. I don't think Lasslo meant any harm. Just uneducated thats all and just excited about his AT. AT makes a pretty ok boat and does have a nice cabin similiar to a powerquest or sonic with fridges, microwaves etc which makes them nice for overnighting. Fountains are more purpose built like the Cigarettes. They will bet you out of the rain when at the dock but not come apart when running 100mph. When I pass out from too many drinks at the island I am usually horizontal not vertical so I could care less about headroom. Just my 2c

I totally agree, their 42 is their best performing model..actually that bottom is one of the top 3 performing 40' bottoms period. The decks on all the Fountains need to be revised, massaged, and brought into the new millenium. That boat with about 5'10" would be the ticket. Where do I sign up...:grinser010:

+1

Maybe the new owners or company or whatever they end up with will.

Sounds like the new owners, Oxford, are serious about building boats and increasing revenue, so perhaps the limitations will be addressed.

I have had many 42's and one 47 fountain not to mention other boats and the ride and handling of the 42 Fountain is what I like. The cabin is not the tallest but the ride is great. Not to hard to tow either.

How does it compare to the 47' in rough water?

smithimports.com 10-11-2009 03:04 PM

The 42 seems to lift up more in rought water and ride over the waves where the 47 just seems to hammer you and the boat. To me it seemed the 47 just did not run well when pushed hard in the rought stuff where the 42 would just eat it up.The 47 I had was a 2001 with 500's. The bottom on the 47's changed in 2006 and the new boat rides a lot better.

42 is the flagship, 47 runs great

The 47 twin run incredible, great CG. The bottoms changed in 2005 and twins started in 2009 models.
