Default shorties on a 2001 35' lightening with 500EFI's

Ive got a friend who recently picked up a 2001 35' lightning with twin 500EFI's

has anyone ever tried 2" shorties? what props did you run, and what gains did you notice?

him and i talk 6 hours a day like 17 yr old high school chicks speculating what will happen with our boats if we do this or that, so we really dont need anymore speculation on here, just real deal info..

THANKS!

First I would check and make sure he knows the "X" dimension on his boat. Should show on his Reggie Report sheet, if he doesn't have it call Fountain with the serial number and get it.

On mine the "X" is 19", when I talked to Fountain about the shorties I was told to run the -2" Sportmasters I would likely need 6 blade Herings to make it work. I have run 32" 4 blade Bravos, 30" 5 blade Lab finished Precisions I bought from BBlades, and 31" 5 blade Lab finished Hydromotives I bought from Throttle up. I plan to get a set of 32" Merc 5 blade Lab finished Maxes for it this year to see what they will do. I doubt that I could run the shorties without the 6 blades based on the way the boat comes on plane with all the props I've run so far. I think my "X" is close to as high as one can practically go on a side by side 35 twin step Lightning and still have it work well for general boating.

Still looking... All the emails about the club hitting the water this weekend are killing me

Still amaze's me I can't find a boat as a cash buyer. A lot of owners are stuck upside down on loans that are only 2-3 years old. I'll keep looking....

A little while back Shogren had one with a blueprinted bottom and 6 blades on it. Set up at fountain, call them or fountain, seems like you could start there.

It was a clean boat didn't last long.

See the 'Thanks to EB Marine' thread on page three of Fountain forum for details.

Looks like boats with an 18" or less X-Dim can benefit from shorties.
I was planning on adding some to mine before deciding to trade boat. You will need 5 blade props to plane, some need 6 blades with extended hubs.

I have a set of Imco -2's for sale. Bought these from KAAMA here on OSO. Just freshened and assembled by Mr. Gadgets with cryo'd gears and Max Machine Worx shafts. Will be listing in Swap section soon.
