Well, I think it's time for new batts. I'm charging them now to confirm they'll hold a charge or are dying a slow death. Going on 5+ years I think the WalMart batts are done. W/a single 509, I run two 800CCA cranking and two deep cycle for stereo. The two cranking are wired together and the two deep cycle are together and the entire set is split w/a perko. If found group 27 batteries:
Costco $85 (1yr free replacement)
Autozone $100+ (but didn't even have grp27)
WalMart $88 (3yr free replacement)
I've searched the threads and still think the WalMarts are the best option based on price and warranty.....thoughts/opinions?

I did a ton of research on this recently before buying.

Ended up going from Group 27 to Group 31 and building my own battery boxes because I couldn't find a decent marine style battery box for the larger battery.

The West Marine AGM's are very good, lots of good reviews, made by Deka. I liked the huge CCA for cranking big blocks.
Found them over $100 each cheaper at a local battery supply place than at West Marine. Paid about $200 each.
Exact same battery made by Deka without the West Marine sticker.

Probably went overkill, but set it and forget it. I'd sooner that than be floating without power or working on it.

Key is to figure out what type of battery you need and use it the way its supposed to be used and was designed for.
Starting battery, deep cycle, one of each, or multi purpose (compromise on both).

Hello all,
Why isn't anyone here in the performance boating biz, talking about using the lightweight lithium batteries ???
A group 27 SLA weighs 54 lbs
Do fast boats NEED the extra weight ??
Why not use a lighter battery and add a couple cases of beverges..???
somebody educate me on this..

Probably due to cost. And really whats an extra 100lbs if you are not racing?

I have energizers from sams club group 27 cost me 70 bucks. ran all summer without a charge so far.

Thing with batteries is just like oil there are really only a few manufactures. But I would agree Optima is overpriced.
