1991 Fountain 42 Lightning "Pros an Cons"

this is what im looking at now. never had a big boy boat an really dont know what to get or look for. have a 24 wellcraft concept with a 454. so can anybody give me some insight as to what im looking at. how fast? how stable? will it handle big water easy? whats it ride like? it will have 525HP SCI's!!! thanks

Absolutely will run in "big" water. Only disclaimer is that you may get a little more wet than in a 37 Outerlimits or a 38 Top Gun. This, BTW, is the equivalent size range to a 42' Lightning. If the water is too big for the 42, you probably shouldn't be out there anyway! The 1991 has no steps on the bottom, so it's not going to run the same speeds as a new(er) one with steps. I can't remember off the top of my head what the top speed will be, but unless you want to get into serious big $$ making it faster, I wouldn't be too worried about it. No step + better handling in rougher water turns and that boat is a MONSTER in tight turns on calmer water! Staggered config gives you lots of room to move around in the bilge, and I've seen people put fender racks in there. This would be my choice over the same boat with trips any day of the week. Absolutely gorgeous boat in the water....

Its a smooth riding old school boat, that you would have to be in very big water to get wet. you would love it chicks would love it.....pull the trigger

I just re looked at that ad. If you have the means, you are dumb for not buying that boat. It is priced perfectly, and those straight hulled 42's are cadillacs in the water.

42's are truely heart pounding beautys in the water.
