Default Eliminating thru prop exhaust, do or don't?

I've got an older 29 and I'm thinking of eliminating thru prop exhaust and losing the Y pipes. right now it's stock headers and set up. However, I've go leads on some gill headers and mufflers, should I proceed or should I be cautious?

I did it on my Formula. If you don't want to pull the motors CP Performance makes plugs for the prop exhaust. Was just easier to get everything to fit with the new exhaust, took some weight out and it sounds better.

I think the captains choice is nice at times. Midnight cruise, a woman in the boat that doesn't like the noise, etc.

dont mean to be the weiner but i love the captains choice and would never buy a boat without it , to my knowledge you can get revolution marine manifolds that weigh half as much and are a good reliable power adder that will work with the captains choice .

I removed it on my 01 29' because I had a bunch of engine problems and was worried that it could be a source of reversion (sp?).

I took mine out, heard too many bad stories about them. Not only did I have it removed, I have had my tailpipes sent to CMI to move my where the water mixes further away from the headers...can't be too careful.

What have you heard? I need to pull my motors out this fall so if they cause problems not would be the time to remove them.

I don't use mine to often. If I am correct you are not suppose to use them over something like 1500 r.p.m.s??????

i definetly understand why it would look nicer without the set up but how or why would having choice cause any problems ? i can understand losing the weight, looking cleaner and having a larger diameter exhaust for flow with a engine that requires it but anyone would have a hard time convincing me of water reversion prone to having choice . not to be a moron but i use my choice alot ,over 2000 rpm and have never had a issue . i dont know about all the rest of you but i love having a quiet boat sometimes it's just a great option theres my 2 cents .

When I had it I never used it over 1200 - 1300 rpm.

Generally speaking, the futher away from the header the water mixes with the exhaust the better (less chance of reversion). When you have the capt's call you have to account for the extra room needed to divert the water through the prop, thus the water mixes with the exhaust closer to the top of the header.
