42's

Cabin Door - Changed to slider in 2005
Bottom Changed - 2005
Cockpit Changed - 2007
Dash Changed - 2007
Cabin Changed - 2008

The new bottom allows the hull to take more power. The angle of attack and strakes were changed in 2005 to allow flatter faster turning.

Hope that helps.

I have a 2005 42 Ex with 525's with 225 hours. I run Kendall straight 40weight. With the original equipment non labbed 32P Bravo 1's I got an honest 82 mph GPS after about 2 miles at approx. 5200 with an occasional bump of the rev limiters. I now have BBlades labbed Maximus 30P 15 1/4" and I run up to 81-82 more easily but I have only reached max speed of 83 GPS and that is at about 5300 bumping the rev limiters quite a bit. This was in about 70 degree weather on Lake Conroe with 1/2-3/4 fuel and 2-3' chop.

Are these numbers about right?

Scott do I have the "new" bottom? I am friends with Gerrit that you sold a 42 to down here.

Speeds

1999 - 2004 Hull is a little faster (2-3) with same power but cannot take as much HP wihtout getting a bit loose over 115MPH. 2005 and newer will also turn and hold straight line on water better.

2002 42 - 2004 with 525's will run 83-85 with 4 people and fuel (200 gallons). Add 2-3mph with light load

2005-2011 will run 81-84 with 4 people and fuel (200 gallons). Add 2-3 mph with light load.

Thanks Scott - Interesting figures. I have another friend with a 2001 Lightning, and it seems his steps are deeper than mine. He is freshening his 575's as we speak. He's been talking about a 700's boat. Know of any? :)
