Default 2003 42 Questions

What will a 2003 42 with staggered 525's and XR drives tend to run? Will that setup throw a tail? Pretty good in rough water?

Considering switching over to Foutain from Cigarette and dont know much about them.

It will throw a tail, will run right around 80 depending on load, and will run good in rough water.

Huh, we must be the only ones.

I believe from other people that have this combo they say right around 82-83 m.p.h.

As for rough, depends on if you hate fountains or not on how that will be answered. I do remember a post by Scott Shogren that said he was on a 38 fountain with 700’s in a run once and when it got snotty he couldn’t keep up with the 42 525 boats.

Can't remember outrunning him here. Speeds are correct above lo-80's with a mild rooster.

My buddy bought a brand new 03 with 525's. The first year it ran a best of 83 empty. After the first year and over 150hrs it would struggle to get over 80 for the next couple of years.

this is a copy and paste from their site.

With a pair of Mercury 525 EFIs, the 42 will hit speeds up to 88+ mph.

Granted that is as of today
