MY 1st 32 fountain
1 Attachment(s)
My son and I took out our new 32 today for the 1st time, 30 min test ride. WOW, nice upgrade from a single 27 checkmate. Twins are new to me. 502 mpi, B-1 drives., 4blade 27 hydros spinning inwards, The silent choice is not working yet, the exhaust air trap under the swim platform was really rattling the boat when leaving the docks. I have read that this is common with a 32 ? We were taking on alot of water, bildge pumps keep going off. After looking at the drive bellows at home I think it is the speedo pilot tube seal under the boat? Otherwise greatful to have a boat like this. Glad to be on the water.

Congrats!!......i Would Like A 32 Or 35.....i Have Title In Hand And Looking For Someone Who Would Like To Trade.....keep Us Posted On Your Likes And Dislikes Of Your New To You Fountain....

Congrats. I purchased my 32 earlier this year, I love the boat. The rattle under swim platform is normal. They all vibrate because they sit so low. Check your rub rail for water leaking in.

Thanks. On my speedo pick up hose under the boat, there should be a through hull fitting type seal? not just chauk right? What type of fittings do other fountains have?
|
Nice Upgrade Glen !
The exhaust pressure getting trapped below the swim platform creates the rattling, silent choice will eliminate that when off plane. Try to identify some of what is rattling you may be able to insulate those items to lessen the noise, but it is probably many items. All models do it if you get the tail end of the boat low enough in the water. Hope to see it and check it out at an event soon, congrats. |
Nice Glen, great upgrade for yourself. Maybe we will catch up on Oneida at some point this summer or in the bay. Feel free to tie to us if you see us out and about. I have a good amount of stock fountain stuff if you need a part or two. I still have a twin silent choice set up someplace.

Congrats glen george. I had a checkmate 253, 27 and a 32 fountains loved then all. if you are going to keep a tube type speedo you need to change the hose thur the transom and put a bulkhead fitting in the transom with two a hose on the inside and a hose on outside so it seals off the transom from water. Other than that its common for 32's to leak water around the rub rails and ext. tubes because they sit so low that what makes them so COOL!!!

SWAMP RUN? mabey, I worked on the leak tonight and found 1 flapper in the silent choice sticks, I tryed freeing it manualy, no luck still sticks at times. Hope to test it thurs night, thanks for the encourgement.

32s sit low in the back it can also leak around the rub rail as for the pick up 5200 marine sealant will do the trick ,congrats on the new boat former C,mate owner here as well

Should I be able to see the h2o leaking in from behind the engines if its the rub rail leaking into the engine compartment. Is the sealant applied on the outside around the railing or do I have to remove the trim?
P.S can a person get into the engine compartment? I plan to run it with the silent choice tonight. |
When I had the pilot tube speedo it was off the front of the drives.
What kind of drives do you have? I also noticed two drain plugs mine has one???? |
1996 single step. bravo 1 stock outdrives with nose cones, 27 hydro 4 blades turning in.

He wont be able to see the back corners of rub rail because there is a bulkhead wall right behind motors.
I just got a 32' about 3 months ago as well and had leaking and the bilge pump would constantly come on. i read all the posts about rub rail so i got me a tube of 5200 and took it off and resealed it. no big cracks or places i could see that the water would be leaking thru but i resealed it anyway. tested it next weekend and same exact problem! I then realized the water was not coming from the rub rail at all but from the blower exhaust holes! about 4" inside those holes is another black tube but that tube is not seals around the white part of tube. with people on the back, water would rush in and when it drifted back towards the rear, it would go inside this lip and into the bilge. i hit the insides of those tubes with 5200 too and that stopped a lot of it. you will have much vibration with the exhaust open. it's only the air trying to escape from under the swim platform. also, all of my hydraulic pumps on mounted behind the rear bench seat in the motor compartment were very lose. I tightened all of those too and helped even more. you will like this boat. very solid and great performing. Have fun. |
Nice boat, congrats!

Water will run down the transom in the 2 corners is where you will be able to see it(fixed several) also friend had a idea that worked well took a kids floating noodle and cut a peice about 10 inches long threaded a section of rope threw the middle when we were at a sand bar he would stick the noodle piece in the vent hole x 2 and tie the end of the rope to the cleat worked awesome! he called them his butt plugs :) |
I ran the boat for 30 miles @ 45-60 mph , no trouble. The exhaust sounds alot better through the outdrive. I need to fix the sticking flaps, can these be rebuilt? The water is not coming from the rub rail. I think it may be the inlet water hose or another hose, I looked around with a flashlight while on the water saw it pooling. I plan to get into the engine compartment with ear muffs on the outdrive to see if the water pressure will make it leak into the bottom of the hull. Updates to follow.
|
Congrats! If it puts a smile on your face when out on the water the little things will fade. We all fuss over chit. My F'n swim ladder cover rattles all the time.
Have fun! Welcome to the family! |

Check all your hose clamps, had a couple on mine last year that were pizzing just a little when the pressure built up at running speeds. |
Thanks for the info, the exhaust bellows are not connected, letting the exhaust exit there. Can i run it like that?
|
Just a little advice. Tighten all the hose clamps you see, not that's your leak but you will be glad you did after checking them. Especially the one coming off the sea water pump, its has a lot of pressure on it.
|
George I have lots of parts if you may need something? Just call.
|
I will climb into the engine compartment tonight with water pressure hooked up the the sea strainer and check for leaks. I hope to beable to climb out.
|
As far as your exhaust flap sticking, it's probably not the flaps themselves, but the air lines that connect to them. When i got my boat the flaps would only stay open for 3-4 seconds so with boat turned off, i would active the open exhaust and I'd lean back there and i heard air leaking out until all the flaps would open one-by-one. i tightened some of the fittings that hold the airlines onto the actuators and that fixed it. give a try.
|
I unhooked the cable and 1 flap sticks, i tryed working it back and forth to free it up with not to much results.

Winter updates

We had a great time this summer with our new boat in all the lakes in upstate NY. I replaced all the bellows and stopped 95% of the water leaking in, both shift boots were leaking. Updates not shown in pictures: new purple vinyl around the top race faring and purple dino steering wheel, Yellow side engine air griles, trailer repainted dark blue. Parts to be installed this spring. EMI manifolds with SS short risers (I fixed the silent choice). New gimble ring, I found a crack on the port side. Bravo one 28P props turning out, (ran 27P hydros inwards). Other updates to follow.

Where are your blower vents?
|
There under the rear side panels, right above the 32 side graphics.
|
Nice
Hello George, congratulations on your new ride. didn't see this over summer. Nice step for your 3'itis
|
We were on Oneida lake, lake ontario and the 1000 islands every weekend. Backing up and docking has been an ongoing learning experience with twins and shifters on the left side. The 2 books i bought did not help. Looking forward to spring, practice practice practice.

Sure is weird how the 32's sit different in the water. Some with rub rail right at water level, some above. Doesn't appear that the motors are always the factor there, 502s vs 500's. |
You know I have never seen how one of the late models sat that have twin SBC,,,,,,,
Then again a couple of all AL LS motors mIght be cool. |
Glen,
Boat looks great, good to hear you had a successful season. I don't think there is a model with a more sinister in-water stance. It is cool. Now I need to memorize those pics so we will recognize you on the water. Merry Christmas to you and your family. |
I hope that removing the heavy stock exhaust and replacing it with the new EMI thunder manifolds will raise up the rear, mabey.

I swapped out my stock exhaust for SM's. Probably gained 1/2-1" do to the weight loss. I preferred the deeper sound from the cast iron over the AL exhaust. More tinny now
|
nope
|
Glen, I had a 32 years back and took the engine covers off and had Fountain build me a racing style engine hatch with scoops on it. You would not believe how much the stock engine hatch weighs. Takes two people to handle it. That will help up to an inch on the sitting low. I also had aluminum heads on the 572's in the boat. It sat about 2 inches higher than other 32's. Good luck with it.
|
Glenn, put EMI exhaust on mine two years ago did'nt really sit any higher, sent computers to Tyler Crockett, now spinning 30 Hydros at 80.6mph. Great performance gain without alot of outlay.
