How does your boat get on plane with that x dimension and what size props and how many blades? I'm running a triple setup that was originally 16.5 x dimension and i'm now running -3 imco's putting my x at 19 1/2...running 31 pitch 6 blade herrings and my shaft is about 2 inches below the bottom of the hull. I need about 4500 rpm's to get on plane.

Reggie Fountain 07-25-2011 08:06 PM

It needs to be higher than that with 7 blades.

PARADISE ISLAND 07-25-2011 08:19 PM

Can't wait to see the results Fountain we know can produce and Tyler is a great builder with a great shop!

MrSneakAttack 07-25-2011 08:21 PM

Sorry guys...been at the lake all weekend and hadn't checked the thread till now. I talked to both Reggie Jr and Wyatt today. We are working on a few last minute details. It looks like we are going to raise the drive ht on the transom and stick with the SCX lowers, switch to 1:35 gears and go with an 1.25" prop shaft to give us more prop options than the 1 7/16 shaft we currently are running. If we can get the drives up high enough, and we can space them down far enough with spacers..we can always look into installing the IMCO 6 drive shaft and running cleaver style props...but I need at least 17" of clearance to cav plate to do that. I know SCs would be faster, but we were shelling them left and right with only 850HP..Im sure they wouldnt last long with close to 1000hp. Im still waiting on Tyler to finish up the second motor....and waiting, and waiting....lol. Anyone know of a set of good condition used #6's for sale?? CHEAP!!!!! This is a moving target, I know:evilb:..lol.

575cat 07-26-2011 08:10 AM

Hey 47 lightning , with the other engines I was running 32 15.5 hering 5 bladdes it took about 2800 to get on plane slowly you had to let it do its own thing , the maximus props worked a little better and better cruise rpms in the mid range, now with these engines all I have right now are some stock 35 maximus props which are going to be my spares and these are a little to big or grab to much water , still waiting on my new herings , supposed to be sent out wed 15.5 33 6 blade with the thicker ears for more strength as per jeff at hering , we will see.

575cat 07-26-2011 10:13 AM

TRL just wondering how much they are going to raise the starboard engine with having the whipples and interfearing with the engine compartment gunnel. I have the 4.0 whipples and the moac coolers and I moved the starboard engine 6.5 inches forward otherwise I would have to a major part of the gunnel out for clearence .

Reggie Fountain 07-26-2011 02:24 PM

There is plenty of clearance to get the correct height. We are raising the 42 up a couple of inches.

Reggie Fountain 07-26-2011 02:27 PM

The RF Powerboats website should be up in a few weeks. I've got some pics up on my Facebook page.

575cat 07-26-2011 03:21 PM

Reggie , what kind of shaft height are you shooting for on that 42 , and you say those scx lowers are - 1.5 is that true ?

Reggie Fountain 07-26-2011 03:40 PM

Doing some things with the lower to make the drive think its even higher but shooting for the propshaft between 2-3 inches above the bottom.

575cat 07-26-2011 09:14 PM

How the hell are you going to pull that off , just kidding , when I baught my boat from scott schogren in early 09 he told me fountain rerigged it from a tripple to a staggard twin in late 08 to the 09 specs with such a high X, maybe you would remember , but Im just wondering how you are going to get that shaft height .

Reggie Fountain 07-26-2011 10:44 PM

All the race boats are higher than that.

575cat 07-27-2011 08:50 AM

could you give some details on how you get that done, I was thinking you could only get the engine and drive so high on the starboard side before having clearence issues in the engine compartment , I have got to see some pics of this done . And being that high wouldnt it be hell getting it on plane ?

Reggie Fountain 07-27-2011 12:43 PM

The hatch clearance is the real limiting factor on how high you can go without putting scoops in the hatch. With 7 blades its no problem and will run very fast. That's why I said 2-3 inches that's determined by how tall the motor is.

575cat 07-27-2011 01:10 PM

mine used to have hatch inserts with the old blower mtrs , now have had them filled in now it looks factory and have mirrorplex on the underside which looks great , but like I said I have the 4.0 whipples with the moac coolers and maybe have 2 inches of between top of superchargers and hatches . thats why I was saying u would have to notch the inner gunnel to make it work . please keep us posted !

TRL505 07-27-2011 09:54 PM

575...we have discussed hatch clearance issues and they are aware that we dont want scoops. Reggie talked with Tyler and I believe they have figured out how high they can go with the drives before clearance becomes an issue. They know that we are OK if it takes a lil caressing to get it on plane. If i can pick up a few MPH on the big end, and have to sacrifice a hole shot...Im good with that.

I trust that the "Reggies" will make the right call. They have been awesome to work with and very informative every step of the way thus far.

JUPITER PULSARE 07-28-2011 08:36 AM

Great thread! Looking forward to the end results. It's nice to see Reggie posting here. I spent some time with Reggie, Wyatt, Clayton Kerby, etc. back in 1997/1998 while running Jim Horn Powerboats in Lighthouse Point, FL. I did quite a few boat shows and became one of the fastest growing Fountain salesman/dealers in the southeast...I ultimately moved on to become the factory rep for Active Thunder; and Jim Horn Powerboats eventually faded away. I was always impressed by Reggie's pride and professionalism. People may not like his ego but his outspokeness helped build the offshore boat industry! If I ever get back in the boat business..I would work for R.F. powerboats!!

I honestly don't consider it "ego" if you can back it up...and I think we all know he has, and will do that.

Talked with Reggie today..we are working out some minor details and deciding on which prop shaft configuration to go to..gonna need to make up my mind soon...they are ready to start raising drives!!

triple 300s 07-29-2011 12:04 PM

No....but the CF Dolly is.

TRL505 08-04-2011 10:09 AM

Update:
We have worked out all the final kinks in the re-rig of the boat with RF. We decided to raise the drives on the transom as high as possible and then space the lowers down as far as they can to fit 6 drive cleaver props (17x38), while still keeping the x dimension above the bottom of the boat if possible. We are going to stick with 1:50 gears and the SCX lowers..and change out the prop shaft to a 6 shaft to accept the cleavers. RF is going to re-work lowers to try to get a little more speed out of them. Engines are shippng from Crockett on Friday. Its starting to come together!!

575cat 08-04-2011 10:35 AM

hope you can get some pics to us .

TRL505 08-04-2011 10:43 AM

Next time I talk to Reggie Ill see if he can post some pics.

So are you all using external water pickups?
Allen

Reggie Fountain 08-04-2011 06:35 PM

We Are Going To Use A Combination Of Both. It's Coming Together Nicely Should Be Getting Wet Very Soon!

Precision 08-07-2011 09:17 PM

Very interesting! Can't wait to see the finished product.

575cat 08-10-2011 11:53 AM

anything new here yet ? pics maybe ?

Reggie Fountain 08-10-2011 02:48 PM

The customer has the pics of his boat. The motors shipped today so we should be moving along nicely come Monday.

575cat 08-10-2011 03:34 PM

good deal Reggie , hope to here the progress , is your building on the waterfront like the original fountain factory ?

TRL505 08-13-2011 01:05 PM

RF has the motors....should start final assembly/rigging on Monday. New tail pipes from CMI and IMCO spacers and #6 shafts should be in early next week. Herrings should be shipped a week from this Monday. Reggie hopes to splash it the week of the 22nd. Im trying to talk Reggie into running it in the shootout...not like its anything super special...and probably pretty tame by their standards, but if it runs as well as they say its gonna run..the improvement from where it used to be will be nothing short of amazing.

What a great thread!! the suspense is insane

FOUNTAIN10METER 08-16-2011 10:47 PM

Reggie, a quick question. I have a 1988 10 meter with 60 original hours on the hull. Joey is building me new 800 hps. XR ITS drives are going on modified by All American Drives. What prop would you recommend, and what speed do you think she will run?

PARADISE ISLAND 08-18-2011 08:04 AM

Anything on trial runs?

TRL505 08-19-2011 01:57 PM

Just got off the phone with Craig Wilson @ Wilson Performance Marine...what a nice guy. I think we are going to send him our SCX lowers later this fall and see what he can do to em to maybe get a little more speed out of them. I spoke with Lil Reggie last night..looks like drives are being mounted up today..CMI tailpipes showed up yesterday....so close!!!
