Well, it only took me 2 days to read the whole thread... TRL (etc), sounds like you've taken lemons and made some serious 110 octane lemonade! Fingers crossed for the testing / tuning!

Great...now my driving partner is drunk again and will probably sleep the entire 20hrs tomorrow. :lolhit:

Me and Trip300's roll out of KCMO tomorrow. We meet a guy in St Louis and pick up new MYCO....and then head to FPM. Plan on getting out there sometime early afternoon on Thursday.

R3 sent me some pics but I am to stupid to load them from my phone. I can say this...everything looks very good!!

This all sounds hauntingly familiar...lol. I have high hopes for much better outcome this time around. And again, thank you all for your positive (and not so positive sometimes....:angry-smiley-038:) comments. If this all goes well...it will all be worth it.

Can't wait to hear & see how it all goes for you guys, I've certainly not read every page of this roller coaster, but I know enough to know that what you've gone through is more than enough to test anybody's sanity, let alone somebody who doesn't seen to have much of that to begin with.. haha !!

Anyhow I wish you guys nothing but the best, and I'm really excited for all involved, so stay dry.. ;)

Hopefully you guys get to wring it's neck & stretch the ole gals legs a bit as well !!!

Then maybe we can get a much deserved video of Eric looking like this: :party-smiley-048:

We took it for a quick spin today. Had a few minor issues to work out but got them handled. We only took it up to about 80 or so and I wasn't happy with the lack of water pressure. The water and oil temp were already coming up a little higher than I would like to see at that rpm. So, we made a few changes and are headed back to the water in the am. We were going to go back this evening but a horrendous thunder storm came through.Glad we didn't go since there was abour 3/4" hail. Glad I'm driving a rental.:lolhit:

I'm confident that we will get it dialed in tomorrow. We have enough smart people working on it. Between myself, Reggie Sr, Reggie Jr., Wyatt, and all the guys at the shop, I have no doubt that the boat is in good hands.

On a good note, I did get the pleasure of going to dinner with Reggie Sr. and Wyatt. Reggie is not what I expected. He's just as nice and down to earth as anyone. What a super nice guy. You name it and he has been there and done that.

Good to know youve got a hell of a crew there , a team of wizards , the fountain residence will be rockin tonight !!!!!! oh and bring us back some FPM robes .

1 MAIDEN AMERICA 05-24-2012 10:33 AM

What kind of water pressure did you have?
On mine
Stock XR w/dual water PU 25#
w/IMCO -1 lower 30#
w/SCX-4 and Hardin SS raw water pump 8#
One engine struggled to get any pressure. I changed PU height, notch length and even tried getting water from the drives instead(that wasn't even close to working). I put the plastic pump back on and got 10# on that engine. Hardin just called and said that there was a machining flaw behind the wear plate. They're sending another one out to try.
I hope it makes 10# or better. 8# took some getting used to but engine temp stays at 170 and oil temp 160. Sure, it sounds like low temp but it's been that way since day one and no oil related failures.

According to FPM FB page... 117MPH and tweaking. I'm sure someone's happy.

bm250r 05-24-2012 07:01 PM

Just seen the update on fb, 122mph. Been following for a while, congrats.

Griswald 05-24-2012 07:03 PM

a quote from Facebook "OMG. .... Where does the speed end....we don't know
It's a wrap. Officially 122"

Nice. Very Nice!

Young Performance 05-24-2012 07:51 PM

Man news travels fast. We just picked it up and it did run 122. The boat was perfectly stable and handled excellently. Of course, the man himself was at the wheel and wasnt afraid to bury the sticks. He held it for over 20 seconds at WFO on the last run. We had 4 big guys in the boat, so it definitely has a little more in it. All in all I'm pleased with the way the engines performed. I'm sure that Eric is too.

I just want to say a big thank you to all the guys at Fountain for all of their help and hard work. They were a pleasure to work with. Would love to do it again.

122 at what rpm?
Where did you end up for final boost numbers Eddie?

Sounds like she is making all that in the power department :)

Good Stuff.

Nice job guys, impressive number too.

Good Stuff.

Right at 6000 rpm. Boost is a little higher with those 6 blade cleavers since they bite really hard. Ended up with 11 psi at 6000. It's fine on 93 but I would like to check it out with 91 before I declare it safe. I think it would be OK, but it is pushing the limits of the octane a little. I can always drop an 1/8" in pulley and it should be fine with 91 octane. As it sits, it didn't even think about hitting the knock sensor. It never even breathed on it.

I would say that they are knocking on 1100 hp with the boost at 11 psi. They made 1020 hp with just less than 9 psi, so another 2+ psi should be worth approx. 75 hp or so.

Congratulations Eric! I know how it feels to bleed money into a boat and believe in people that continuously let you down.

So what did the water pressure problem turn out to be and the solution? I know early on in this thread there was praise for the Fountain pick-ups. I am needing to update mine when I decide to pull the trigger. I was looking at Teague and Stainless options.

What was the final verdict on the reason the Crockett motors wouldn't perform/last...fuel delivery?

We put some restrictors in the tailpipes to slow the water down a little so it had time to transfer the heat. Reggie also modified the lead-in right in front of the pickup and lowered the pickup some to give it a little more water. That did the trick. The water temp stayed at 110 and the oil never went above 220. The pickup worked great. There is no bounce or fluctuation in water pressure at any time.

As far as the previous engines failing, well, I'll leave that one alone. Eric and Gavin know all the details of what was found when we took them down. Every builder has their own way of doing things. There is ALMOST always more than one way to get something done. However, there are some things that are just wrong and won't work no matter what. There was some of each going on. I won't get into details because it's not my style. If Eric or Gavin would like to then they have the right. That's up to them.
Eddie

Very nice Eddie.
Ya, 11psi on 91 might just be pushing the envelope a tiny little bit on a hot day and a long run. All in all, sounds like a real nice package you built.

Congrats Eric, you're a boater again. :)
