Here is the other issues that concern me. The wiring harness(s). The cannon plug on one engine is completely melted. Also, the wiring on the back of the engine is a mess. None of the relays or fuses are mounted to anything. Wires are hanging everywhere. I don't know if it was always like this or it was just taken apart. I'm not sure if any wires in the efi harness were damaged as well. I don't think I want to chance it and will be replacing the harness(s).

I said a long time ago that is sounded like a wiring harness issue to me. And sure enough...

I'm not really sure if anything is/was wrong with the wiring. Obviously, the cannon plug is melted, but I think it layed on the hot exhaust. Because of the water restriction, the headers were getting extrememly hot. I'm going to replace the wiring harness just in case, but I can't say for sure if something is wrong or not. It has supposedly fried 2 ecms, which is very odd. I can count on one hand how many bad ecms I have seen. They are very tough and don't fail easily.

How do you fry an ECM? With lousy wiring!

Looks like what Eddie said, plug fried from outside in, which is probably hot enough to melt a pair ECM internals, or maybe the previous tuner tuned the motors to get lava hot so they themselves ignite the fuel inside the cylinders? It also provides a color show in the engine compartment. Merc blue turns to fire orange, and stainless turns to rainbow…

All of this again......sounds strangely familiar.

I honestly don't know. Maybe it shorted out when the cannon plug melted and went to ground. I'm not sure what exactly happened the ecm's. Again, I'm just coming into the equation, so I'm not 100% clear on what all happened. I believe that it has been through 2 ecms.

Eddie are you have the ECMs repaired or replacing the whole ignition systems , I didnt know if those ECMs were repairable .

Young Performance 11-22-2011 08:35 PM

They aren't really repairable since they are potted. They are tough to get into. It really depends on what is wrong with it. In 99% of the cases they aren't worth messing with and just get replaced.
I have only seen like 5 of them go bad, and 2 were on the same boat that was struck by lightening. It took out everything electrical on the entire boat.
