I've followed this saga and I cannot imagine the money you've spent and the frustration you have endured. All I can offer is some good luck as you go forward.

no problem. I like seeing new engine builds . . . I like learning all kinds of tips and issues to look out for, anything helps.

I've only had the most highly respected people wrench my offshore powerboats. I am sure everyone on this board knows them, as they are very high profile.

I am so dissatisfied with their work I've pulled the engines out and I'm going with outboards, probably Hondas.

I am so done with shops that charge a lot, and often do not do what they claim they do, and certainly don't make an attempt at doing the right thing for the customer: just run up the bill. $8K, $11K, $6K, $14K, $5K, $8K, ... Gets pretty sickening when those are for service and repair every month or three, not upgrades.

Examples include never actually properly aligning the engine mounts, leading to several coupler failures. I was charged, and paid for the re-alignment, but when I stripped the boat, I find the factory original mounts, never re-drilled, never moved, so I was simply ripped off, both for the supposed alignment, and for the several subsequent failures and loss of use of my boat.

Another example: the wiring was degraded due to salt water use. I thought that was the problem, but first two different "top shops" took me for literally tens of thousands of dollars, replacing all sorts of stuff, nodding and smiling, suggesting what's really needed is a new pair of their custom shop engines. Just like I see happening to you, TRL.

And finally, I had the wiring harnesses replaced, and all the problems vanished. Cheap, quick. But no, the vacuuming of the my wallet had to happen first for a couple of frustrating years. Replacing most of the stuff you are paying for, TRL.

Another: on one engine, the temperature would creep up. Sounds like cooling water flow, right? Well, "Mr. Integrity" took me for over $20K on that, and he finally ate another $10K invoice, because the symptoms were still IDENTICAL after installing a lot of very beautiful polished SS pieces. Absolutely no improvement.

When I stripped the boat, I again discovered that what I paid to have done had not been done. I suspected the problem was a clogged heat exchanger, and sure enough, when I pulled it off, it was clogged. As I f*cking told him, as he charged me for, but was not done.

After paying him close to $100K for work on my last two boats, I'll never have him touch one of my boats again, and I'm sure he feels the same way about me.

I paid top dollar to widely respected mechanics to do that work. But too often, the work either was simply not done at all, or the less important but flashy and expensive stuff was done instead of what needed to be done.

One thing I could always count on: the invoices were always top dollar!

I knew it was a mistake to start owning boats I could not fix. I learned my lesson!
