I started painting the flanges about a year ago and have had really good luck with it. The paint holds up well. It will start to come off some right where the exhaust and water pump touches, but not that bad. It still doesn't leave a thick edge to lift.

No I do not. I use to tape off the exhaust face of the head, but it would just leave an edge for the paint to lift. In just a few months, the paint would start to lift at that sharp edge. The same holds true for the water pump flanges.
