One more...The next picture should be of the rigging of the motors and the last picture will be looking at the boat from the back at 18 or 21 prop blades...and then get her wet..

What was the original problem with the stringers and what year is your boat?

boat is a 97 .started with a wet transom so i pulled the motors and discovered some rotted stringers .looks like when the holes were drilled they were not sealed properly .

It's getting real close.

When I had my 2002 for sale I had a guy tell me Fountain had stringer problems with 47. Is it an issue with the 47's or just someone didn't do what they should of at the factory on a few of the boats?

You could have this issue with any boat that has wood in it. That's why we changed to a composite material that will never rot. There's a 05 42 with big power that's at the fountain now with wet stringers.

Why didn't FPB resin seal any of the drilled drain holes, (stringers and transom) or the thru bolt holes (K-planes, steering) during the build in the 1st place since wood was used? I'd have a little reservation of having my boat repaired by more or less the same individuals that didn't do this simple step at day 1.

I've seen a few that don't have those rear swimplatform cavity drain holes sealed. A lot of black wood visable at those holes. I know of 1 that has brown streaks running down the transom below the T/A's after pulled out of the water. Got a bad feeling on that one.

Not to be busting on RF, just hoping this concern will be noted. Comments?

Water will find the smallest of holes. Over the yrs fiberglass flexs & shrinks. The Pvc pipe doesn't, that's most likely the cause.

What would be an easy way to tell if you have any of these problems?

Reggie Fountain 10-05-2011 11:50 PM

Easiest way to tell is buy a moisture meter & it will tell you. Not very expensive, you can get a cheap one from lowes or home depot.
