I guess the motors will make around 650-675 hp

teamsynergy 09-23-2011 05:48 PM

That boat is around 11.5k for weight dry...with those motors, I say about 78.

PARADISE ISLAND 09-23-2011 06:29 PM

Looks like a clean boat maybe a little faster than 78mph?

Back4More 09-23-2011 06:50 PM

if they really make 700 each....about 98mph

Dry weight on a 38 Lightning is 9800. A staggered 525 boat will run in the neighborhood of 96, Merc 700's with sixes around 110-115. This one should be high 90's to 100, if the HP is near close to right. The side by side will give up some speed to the full staggered set up.

triple 300s 09-23-2011 10:47 PM

I like the boat and Brett is a stand up guy...Never met him, but has always told me straight up in (emails) the truth. He has nothing to hide and wouldn't think twice about buying a boat through him sight unseen... That boat has been for sale for a bit, just recently reduced and super low hours. Throw some chillers on it!!!

The intercoolers probly give about 75 hp. You get at least 3 pounds of boost by cooling the air

78! Go back to Sonic Land! :party-smiley-004: I got 82-83 out my non stepped 38 Fever, runnin thru Huber trannies and ssm drives, with 468CI based mills!

I can see those engines pictured making 650HP with some added boost if everything else stock. If I can hit 83 with no steps, and about the same power, i can see a newer twin step with bravo's well into the 90's.

Not sure what you mean. Normally, when installing intercoolers you will lose boost psi on the gauge. This is due to the cooler air filling the cylinders better, and the restriction of the cooler itself. You can gain 75hp by adding a chiller, but from what I have seen, you only see the real gains when you crank up the boost, say from 4psi to 7psi.

teamsynergy 09-24-2011 08:47 PM

Actually... since looking at the ad again, I will say 88 now. I didn't realize it was a stepped hull plus the fountains pad... I changed my constant and boom... lol

And this is done by a smaller pulley....

Changed my constant? You need to get out of that computer run speed calculator and into the real world. Those things are only good for amusement on a saturday afternoon in mid January.

I've run four different sets of props in the last two weekends with very close top end results. None of them would play into a computer speed calculator and end up close to the same number.

What I think I mean is . If you crank up boost you get more heat. Thus making ( detination). If you cool the air. You can get more air in w/o as much heat. Making more power. I may have worded it wrong but you know what I mean.

P.S. A 38 sonic would wiegh 12 thousand pounds and run about 65 with the same power. :D

My 38 with stock 500hps runs right at 78 with labbed 28 Bravos and will run 82 in cool temp. This boat should haul A$$ at right around 95 with 575s with chillers

RAF

pullmytrigger 09-27-2011 02:20 PM

I was going say in the low/mid 90s.....that thing would haul....!

mcprodesign 09-30-2011 10:35 AM

It goes 90. Finally, I got a return email stating this. The motors must be tired or it's not propped right.

There is an 01 35, 90 miles from me and the guy selling it claims 90. but it has 30 bravo props 500 efi's and xz drives. I think he is high.

I'm still more into the 38. Maybe more engine work and prop work, x dimention., would get it to 98 mph. I would like to hear this boat running at idle. That would be a buying motivator for me.

Fanatic 09-30-2011 01:53 PM

That will run 95-100.

Were talkin gps here. It's got a gps speedo and the seller said 90-92. Do you own the 35 on Chesepeak bay w the carberated 525's ?

Found something on my boat today. It was made w a series of 38R's and the one prior to my boat weighed in at 6,876, and the one before that was 6,950 pounds. Probly because no kitchen and being a R model it was made light I guess.. Anyway . On the factory test run it ran 88 MPH w 500's and bravo 1's w w 15.5 29 props.

bob_t 11-11-2011 10:39 PM

The "R" in the serial number says it was a Race designated boat. I looked at the pictures and saw the "no frills" interior and was going to ask about the HIN, but no need burst anyone's bubble or excitement :D. There was 35 twin step somewhere around LOTO named "Miss Nette" that was an "R" designated hull, also. It had a "modified" cabin, where they took the boat back to the factory and put bench seats in it instead of the regular cuddy interior, since it originally left the factory without any real interior. That 35's interior was not done anything close to what yours looks like (the 35 's interior looked like chit). Your's looks very nice and if you don't "need" the dinette, I would be happy with the bench seats. Do you know, was your 38 originally raced (without an interior), or just ordered as an "R" designated boat to gain some more speed?

Thanks for the kind words. I know my wife, the dinette would just have a dirty butter knife in it. Probly some Margarita glasses etc. :D. The 35 you are talking about .Did it have this graphic design?see pic. There was a 35 like this on the chesapeak w carberated 525's. He said he put new 525's and pulled the electronics and went to carberated. He said it went 95 when he first put the motors in it. He bought it w cracked blocks. It had a very flat basic bench seat. ( did not looke like a fountain interior). He was looking for 60K I do not see the listing in the classifieds anymore.
As far as my boat. I would think a race boat would not come with the standard paint graphic design down the side. I could be wrong. I called Legend and got the number of the guy that traded it in on a 42 in 06-07. He didn't return my call. That is where the trail went cold for me on history.

As far as it being raced; that would be a strange irony. My 27 was raced before I got it. And Pfaff, Jennings and Rankin used to see it race at Long beach when they were racing the Penzoil Scarab 3.

mcprodesign 11-12-2011 11:12 AM

Confrimed, One of 6 Factory F2's that will explain the Graphics .

bob_t 11-12-2011 03:12 PM

The 35 was a 2001 or 2002 and had 500 EFI's if I remember correctly. It was for sale in the Powerboat Magazine classifieds for a really long time, several years ago, and then I saw it on boattrader, and a couple of other places, and then maybe a year ago it was for sale again on one of the boat sites.
