No, it's just a line that goes back towards the stern and is supposed to drain into the rear bilge... supposed to anyway. I rerigged mine so it hooks into my sink drain line.

Some of them leaked around the base of the windshield. On older boats the windshield had thru-bolts and it would get in around the caulking and go through those bolt holes. Not saying this is your problem, but it has happened in the past.

I agree with bob t You have about 20 snaps around the bottom of the windshield that are screwed into holes drilled into the windshield and the deck. Anytime I mess with the snaps I run a 3" wide piece of ducttape right over top of the snaps and push the phillips screwdriver into the snap. Then theres no accidental oh s***s with scratching the gelcoat or window.

could it be around the anchor locker or bow light / eye area? I had a 42 and the anchor locker drain always made a mess... I had to keep it inside or under a full cover or water would get in the cabin.

All you guys are bringing up good points. I had thought about the base of the windshield and them snaps. Where ever it is coming it it just seems it is making its way to the bottom then coming back up. I know it sounds weird, impossible, but the wetness should be all over the place instead of where it is. I am going to check the screws in a bit. Also might be thinking that water has gotten in the boat over years, from the anchor locker, light, made it down to the areas under the right side seat, never been able to get out, from running the boat now( sat for 4 years) it is splashing up on the underside of the seat from that area.
How does the cabin seat come out/up on these boats. Thanks

Right on. My used 42 from New Jersey leaked into cabin a lot. I found bow rail screw and anchor locker leaks. Sealed the screws with 5200, and reglassed the anchor locker where the anchor had come loose and knocked a hole (hidden by the anchor rope). Left it out in the hot Texas sun 4 days straight completetly opened up until it was dry as a bone. Hasn't leaked since and I got a "new boat smell" back!

Not sure if this will help or even applies to your Fountain, but I've seen a ton of these 'water under the step' threads and thought I'd share what I found recently. I maintain a bunch of 42-47' Lightnings and had one that the customer just purchased last year. On his first outing he had a ton of water show up by the step. He searched and found that the port side fresh water tank sending unit/cap was loose. He still kept getting water by the step so brought it in for other service and to find the leak. The 47's have side saddle fresh water tanks, the port side top is accessible, the starboard side is glassed over. The tanks have a cross over under the step, we capped both sides and filled each tank with different colored food coloring. Port side never leaked, got a bunch of water by the step within a day or so from the starboard tank. For the time being we capped the cross over and he's just been using the port side fresh water tank and absolutely no more water showing up. The fitting for the crossover hose on the starboard tank wasn't screwed in tight, but we are going to replace the fitting and hose this winter and pressurize the tank slightly to check for cracks. When searching for the problem, it takes a day or so for all the water that gathers in front of the step to drain back to where you can see it. Be patient and make sure you get it completely dry up there or you'll keep scratching your head as to where it's coming from.
