Default 27 Fever

Mate,

I just got your e-mail. I repplied with my numbers so you can call me. Mine is a 91 502 carb stock, obviously no step. Nevertheless it is in absolute great shape. 330 hours. Feel free to call me and you can come by and check it out for comparison.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help in the process. Better start getting my behind in gear and drop that turbine in the back in lieu of that 502 so I can keep up with you........

I hope to see on the river this weekend for our mini poker run to Smithfield with the HRPA guys.... Good luck...

Pablo

First let me thank everyone for their input on the Fever. By next weekend I should have mine in the driveway. I bought the 97 with procharger on an aluminum trailer for a great price and think we'll be very happy with our new addition.

Yes the boat does chine walk at 78mph on gps. Dropping the drive or tabbing down stops it but also effects speed. My new boat (had to say that) has the big tabs, not the standard ones, which help extend the running surface. This problem seems to be inherent in this hull. Hope there is a way to go faster since I know I'll want to in the future. The boat has a 27p Hydro Q4 on it. I will probably try some others after spending some time driving it.

Two of my other friends have older non-stepped 27's putting out "lots" of HP! One is a 91 with a really sweet bored 502 running 8-10 lb of boost thru 2 holley 750's and it runs right at 81 mph (gps). His just starts to dance at about 79-80 mph. He has stock k-planes without the stops installed on them. The other "older" one is a 92 with a 540 tunnel ram motor that really screams (high rpms) and that boat will run upper 80's without any problems. He has the big k-planes and they look like flippers hanging off the back! But they must work!

What I have found that works best to get the most out of my boat when settting it up to "run" is set the tabs around 3.5, push the throttle, then get the drive set where it needs to be (upper 5's to just about 6 on the indicator) and then "peck" at the tabs until you can just start to feel it wanting to dance. Doing this, it seems I can extract the most mph out of the boat. If I already have the tabs up (about 2.5 to 3 on the indicators) and try to set it up for a "run" using the throttle and drive trim, it starts to dance before I run out of horsepower. Usually can't hit the tabs down quick enough once it starts to dance to keep it WOT and have to back off the gas. My boat has the stock k-planes and doesn't have any stops installed on them, so I can run "negative" tab if I wanted to (don't think I gain anything doing that, though). According to the local dealer, "3" on the tab indicators should have the tabs "flat" with the bottom of the boat and the stops that come on most of the 27's do stop the tabs right at "3". My friend with the 98 that has the HP500 w/250 B&M has the stock tabs and his does have the stops installed - his starts to get spooky at about 76 mph (gps) so running the tabs "flat" or just dragging them slightly does seem to get you a little higher mph before "dancing". I just need more horsepower to go there, though.

I think with enough hp. the ill handleing can be driven
through. Jim V. ran 98 mph. in a non step 27 last year
at the LOTTO Shoot Out.
