That's sales. Things are worth what people can and are willing to pay. People don't realize in this economy things are worth less. Shogren just had a beautiful 2005 35 lightning twin 525 listed for 89,500. Yet I just saw a 496 35 ex 2006 for sale for 120000. I think over 100 for any 35 ex is just too much. It seems with fountains as many other brands people tend to overvalue them. I love them, want one real bad just not ready to spend 90000 on a boat yet. If priced right for the economy stuff is usually selling quickly.

Finally someone with common sense.

So is the under 40k ones backformore listed to much?

MILD THUNDER 02-11-2013 06:53 AM

It sounds to me, that there is a little bitterness about the asking prices of some of these boats you guys are looking at. Is the economy in a bad state, sure. Does that mean that these sellers NEED to sell you their boat at a bargain swap meet price that meets YOUR criteria? Not necessarily.

I agree their are lots of boats overpriced out there. But I think its a little vane of you guys to feel you should state what someone elses boat is worth in your opinion, based on comparables. At the end of the day, its their boat not yours. If you want the boat, make your offer. If they don't take it, don't be pi$$ed off because they didn't meet YOUR spending criteria.

Theres a lot of boat owners that have owned these boats since the economy was good. They paid a good buck for them. Along the way, they have sunk tons of cash into repowers, maintenance, upgrades, etc. So I can see why some of them can't stomach the idea of giving the boat away they have invested so much into. Just because one guy is in a tight financial position and needs to sell that single step 35 well below market value, doesn't mean the guy who wont is an idiot, or has no common sense, if he doesn't follow suit.

So if a late 90's 35 Fountain is worth only 40k, than whats a late 90's 25 outlaw worth? 20K? Because that 35 Fountain was probably twice the cost of a 25 outlaw new. What it sounds like is you guys are strictly looking for the guy who lost his job, on the verge of losing his home, and you wanna scoop up his boat for pennies on the dollar. And they are out there. Just not every boat listed is gonna meet that criteria.

+100....

when I sold my PQ a year ago the asking price was $69.9k had guys offer me 40k because thats what they could afford and that was the credit they had,,,so I asked one guy why are you calling on a boat that asking price is $69.9k if you can only afford $40.0k???
buy the way the boat sold in 3 weeks for $68.k and one guy from Ohio was pi$$ed because he lost out on the deal..

So please dont think ALL sales are a must sell situation..

I agree with you mild in one way. However sales is supply and demand. I'm not really debating any one boat just sales. Right now the supply of sport boats is high and demand is low. In this economy only a select few are looking at luxuries such as sport boats.

I'm a frugal bastard and I believe these boats are worth most of the asking prices just prolly not in this market. I understand people payed a mint for them at one point. I know people who payed triple for their house than I did for mine. Doesn't mean their house is worth that now. As a smart shopper our job is to find the best product at the lowest price. Unless you have buckets of money and don't care.

I personally wouldn't tell anyone what their boat is worth, id only tell them what I'd pay for it. Hahaha

I think mild got it right, but I do wonder.

First on the boats that you guys looking, and think are just a bit over prized have you went and looked at them? Condition means a lot.

Also it would seem to me if you have been looking for years and don't see one that is in the range you want maybe you need to reset your price.

I mean there was a 1999 35 that went for 35k just recently, if that was still more then you think they are worth something is off.

What have you looked at and what do you think they should be? Not the 100k + EX, I think we all would agree that is of of line.

I think 35 for a 99 35 is a deal. I'm not ready to buy one yet. Still just looking as I am enjoying gettin my formula up to snub. Not ready to take on 100k in boat yet. Lol. I just couldn't resist chiming in on this thread. I can find good deals all day long and if I was ready to buy would have prolly bought because a lot of awesome deals are out there. I was merely referencing some of the ones I see that are way off price.

Value is in the eye of the owner and purchaser. What one of us loves and values another hates. I read this and the formula thread and you see the same "topics" on boat value. Prolly in other owners parts also. I hope everyone finds what they are looking for and those who are too picky will usually miss the greatest buy.

Wildman_grafix 02-11-2013 09:56 AM

I understand, would like to hear from the other guys that are looking also, interesting thread.

That is a great post! I agree 100%

I totally agree on the newer Ex's with 496HO's going for $90s+ is kind of out there...even though this maybe the last of them.
You can find some 42's with 525's for a little more.
The 35 is a popular sized boat. Its big enough for some big lakes and small enough for little lakes, also able to tow with a med sized SUV, and even park in the driveway.
The 35 Scott has with the 500's is not 100% perfect but priced fair my book, and will be gone within a month.

Even with the lowers missing, i think a $110 offer is a good start on this one...
