I have gotten my thru hull water pickup. I am determining where I want to drill my hole. I know I need it as close to the end running surface as I can get it. It is a 2000 38' Lightning. I plan to be within 20" of the end of running surface just at the engine. How thick is the hull in that location. I know I will find out soon enough but am looking for a little heads up.

Mine is not a good comparison with yours because am running a straight bottom 35 to your step bottom 38 , I figured the back of my boat is the deepest so that is where I mounted my pick-up's and I will see how they work,.If they do not work good I will have two more holes to fill .

I'd rather mount it in solid fiberglass than compromise the transom area. I'll do just about anything before I open up the wood even if it's only a screw hole.

Fiberglass is a wonderful thing. I did look at the notched part of the transom where I would have to mount them and there is not a ton of room there. I will com straight up then SS ball valve, street elbow with barb right into the strainer. We shall see. Hell we got VERY low water at the lakes around here. Not hurting my feelings that its on trailer right now.

Not yet. Set the flange with bolts and 5200. Letting the 5200 set up properly before i clean the hole up from any 5200 overflow. I will hopefully run this weekend. I will post the results.
