Thats interesting. I haven't trimmed the boat to the moon yet but every time I bump the trim up it picks up a mph. I know I havn't been anywhere near the swim platform yet

That hull wasn't designed to have that much weight forward - could throw off the CG. I"d do a lot of research on the subject and get hold of some of the old Fountain principals before you try a stagger. On the other hand there have been a number of 35's ex's with 800+ hp and shorties running 110ish with XRs. I think the swim platform is an issue with bigger drives.

I know of a 38 Fever that had Arneson 7m's installed and it was a great set up. I don't know why wouldn't it wouldn't work as well on a 35 ex. Again, ask some of the old gang at Fountain.

Regarding 525 efi's, they might get it to 90-ish- with the later drive heights and props, but not deep into the 90's as you state.

As the title says......."theoretically".

We know the drives create drag so we have more efficient drive aquadynamics to help reduce the drag. Quads create more drag than triples, triples more than twins and twins, more than a single. At what point in boat size and weight does a single become inefficient?

A single works on boats up to around 30' but who says you can't put a single on something bigger? You can run a couple of big power engines, say 700 plus hp so why can't you run a single with a Merc racing 1350 or bigger? Obviously you need the right drive and a fair bit of prop but weight should work out ok and you can reduce drag significantly.

Maybe a stoopid question but if money is not an issue, what is the theoretical size limit for a single engine performance boat?

For what it's worth, my 525 twin step runs 90 - 92 on a pretty steady basis, 4 blades or 5 blades labbed and stock are all in the same range, single step hull will be mid 80's on a steady basis.

I do remember years ago when I was looking for a single step 35, one 35 that was factory done with the Merc 1000 HP's and 6's. It was a side by side set up and was claimed to run 125. Had a friend that had a '97 with 800+ and Bravos that ran just north of 110. The single step 35 hull is good for some real serious numbers, just takes some cash and balls, the world is your oyster!

Jus checked the drive alignment and the prop shaft center line is 34 5/16. didn't measure the X dimention but just by eye the prop shafts are around 6 inches above the bottom of the V.

Damn! Do you have hood scoops to clear your valve covers?

The props aren't 6" above the bottom, there above the keel. X dimension is measured in line with the drives fyi, only reference the keel on a single engine boat

to the poster saying do some research.. i chatted with RF3 told him my idea, said a stagger would be cool but not worth the work... probably going to drift away from stagger. he said asd will run good on that hull also. just need to find a set. i know i wont go bigger than 750's in it. RF3 said they did a single step with 700's and it ran 110 xr boat. im not trying to set world speed 35 record. i just want to spank all the other stock 35's around here LOL
