Generator Replacement for 38EC
Evidently the Westerbeke gas 5kw generator in my 2004 38EC needs replacing (has about 125 hours on it). Mechanics have messed with it for over a year now and can't get it running. I think it just needs a carburetor but I've been told that part is no longer available. A carb rebuild kit was installed, but that didn't help.
So it looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet on a new generator. I would appreciate any suggestions on what brand should I be looking for, and where to get it?
TIA

Have you looked into adding fuel injection to your existing generator? When I was looking for parts for my 2006 Westerbeke, I noticed a company offering fuel injection kit for the generator. I would make sure you go with a low RPM generator, like an 1800 RPM vs. the 3600 RPM. With the location so close to the rear cabin area, the high RPM generator will rattle you out of the cabin IMHO. If you go with a new Westerbeke, the switch should also be easier as you won't have to re-route fuel hoses, electrical connections, and exhaust hoses.

indysupra - If I end up buying a new generator, I'll let you know. How much is it worth to you? It has about 120 hours on it.
