I have owned and boated with a 27 single big block, a 29 with twin small blocks, and a 32 with twin big blocks. The 32 was a great riding boat, with about the same size cockpit as the 27, and very little room to move in bilge. I loved my 29 as it had more cockpit room than the 27 and 32, rode good for its size (I have my boats out mainly on holiday and event weekends when Cumberland is at its roughest), and even with the twin small blocks had some room in the bilge to work around the engines .Also, if you are trailering the boat to and from the lake, the 29 is a little easier to haul as well. As for maintenance, twin small blocks vs. a single "performance" big block (500, 525, etc) I think would be about the same cost anyway you look at it. After boating, wrenching, and towing my 32 I decided I should have bought the 35 lol.

Thanks for your service.
A 29 single will be great maintenance wise. Has the largest cockpit compared to a 27, 29, and 32. I cannot compare it to a Nordic. I’ve only had Fountains in the above sizes. Now when you start shopping for a 29, you will notice people are really proud of them. I had a 27 and was considering another 29. My 32 was the same price and sometimes less than the 29s I looked at. Couldn’t pass up a bigger boat for less. Now a 32 twin is VERY difficult to work on. I’m a small guy and I have trouble. The 6.2s would be a lot easier to work on vs big blocks but I feel a 32 would be underpowered with them.
If you get a 29, stick with a single. Cockpit is bigger with the single. Stay away from the 496. It’s a slug. Hard to plan and 60ish mph top end.

First off here Jay, Thank You for your service without which none of us would be able to enjoy our free time. Having owned two Fountains, they are hard to beat, I do find myself looking to drop down in size. For the simple reason of ease of use. The 29 Fountain is one of the finest single engine perf boats to hit the water. Good luck! Hope you enjoy your time on the water with your children. God Bless!

Do not get a 29 or 32 twin. IMO it is a poorly balanced boat. My 29 single flys level and is way better performance with a SINGLE engine.
