Default 42 Ex and LGT Weight Differences.

Looking up some specs of the Ex vs Lighting say around the 2005/2006 Timeline. I'm seeing the Ex at 10,300 and the Lightning around 9,400 dry weight. Both with say 525's and XR's. I figured with out all the amenities the Ex would be a hair lighter. My other question for the Fountain Folk, is do any of the heads have a shower option in the 42's? All I see is carpeted heads. Thanks, and Spring is just around the corner for all us Northern Snow Birds!!!

After seeing Bens Pass at LOTO back in August I can't help but wonder if it would have been any faster in the EX vs. his LGT. Especially with slightly different deck design. Just Curious questioning.

Strange, always were told the LGT deck is heavier. Also do a search, Shogen had a post years ago and a 42 525/XR boat on the travel scale was in the 12K range.

So you're thinking what I'm thinking. I thought the LGT's should be heavier in theory. When Shogen weighed in on the scale I'm assuming that was total tow weight including trailer. I did a search but only skimmed through the first page or so. At work and had a few minutes to try and find some data.

My 95 35 weighed right about 9300lbs with 6 gals of fuel in each tank. Full of fuel that would be over 10k lbs. also it had zero gear in it. I don’t imagine a 42 being lighter in any way.

I considered a 35' Ex a few years ago and everything I researched said the Lightning was nearly 900lbs heavier. Weight difference split between the deck and a bit for cabin amenities. I'd assume a similar difference for the 42'. Ex heavier? Doesn't sound right.

2020 now and boat building has come along way. Stronger, more efficient lighter hulls. This from the Fountain website suggests the 42 Lightning has put on a fair bit of weight in recent years! (Might be why the Kilo boat ran fast, but not fast enough)

My 2006 EX 42 Bravo boat on trailer full of fuel and gear was 16k. So estimate -1600lbs of fuel -300ish gear and -2000 trailer =12,100 boat dry. They are heavy but still roll out good and ride so nice with extra weight compared to lighter boats in same length.

Advertised weight for 2002 42 test boat with merc 900sc's and 6's was 9,400lbs. Now 13,400 with 565's and bravos?

No that was on a travel scale one of those they put the boat in with, so no trailer.

Thanks transport. That's good real info. I'm just doing some homework but was curious watching Bens pass and how proud Reggie was. I can only wonder if the Ex would be any faster due to weight differences, aerodynamics with the different deck design. Comparing Apples to Apples, just different flavors.
