Default Boat value???????

Have had boat listed for a few weeks. Started at 49K, now down to 41.5K. New boat pricing is killing me!

Ok,
Called on 2 different boats with mine as a trade in. Have been offered 25K for mine on trade towards a 100K boat at one, and 40k towards an 85K boat at another. Maybe even 42k once seen in person. (Just didn't care much for the 85k boat.) Seems backwards to me! Both very well known dealerships. I understand the need for them to buy low and sell for profit, but only 25K?
I see many 93-95's in the trader in the 40's, so figure I'm ok to sell outright for what I'm asking. And mine is in mint condition! NO scratches, stress cracks, nothin! I had a lot of interest at 1st, but has died down lately.
Am I outta line trying to get what I feel is a respectable price for mine? Or am I really over optimistic?
According to the 1 dealership, I couldn't even trade my 27' for a frickin new Bayliner! I just can't justify taking less than 40k for mine.
Maybe a 32' just isn't meant to be!

US1- I know you'd like to deal it, but its a tough time of the year to get people excited about boating, hang in for spring when the weather is warm and you can take them out for a test ride. Supercharged boats can be a little hard to unload however, have you thought of putting a stock 454 or 502 in it and selling your supercharged mill seperately........Doug

Twinn,
I removed the blower, all is back stock now in order to sale. Ugly black intake. I had a lot of interest when the blower was on it, none now.

Plan is to keep the blower package until after the boat is gone then sell it. Just in case things don't work out I can put it back on.
Only conscern is that next year the boat will be another yr. older.
The dealer that gave me a good trade price is pretty confident that they will have more to pick from after the boat shows start. I'm ready to buy today!

Mike,
You buy my boat and I'll take a sawzall to it and turn it into that CC fishing boat for ya! Might even bolt a big ol' Igloo in there for you to keep the fish in.

it's not just fountain all boats are feeling the pinch, dont let anyone tell you different. the economy is tough the boats or a luxuary that many dont wont to afford right know. do you think that a $250,000 cig, for that matter check out the under $100,000 dollar boats and see how there not selling either, to bad the economy is so up side down because im sure there are some killer deals on all makes and model boats.

and also fever mike your fountain wasnt in the same economy as your fountain back in 98

I think it's the winter thing. I went shopping for my Fountain over the winter because I knew prices would be lower. I listed the Donzi around Christmas, and she didn't go away until the following summer.

You really can't get a true value by looking at the prices people ASK in the Trader.
As a rule, they're WAY higher than real value: people's wishful thinking. Take 30% off (at least) to get in the ball park.
And it's not just Fountains.

It happens in the car biz all the time when the Manufacturer puts rebates or O% finance it hits the used market HARD. Happened to us all the time ,people buy on a monthly payment and right now you can get better rates on a new boat PLUS people like formula have 0% Don,t let anyone kid you the market is soft right now on all new and used boats, it may shake out in the spring hang in there, thats one great looking boat you have , but right now Reggie has his pants around his ankles!!!

bad market to sell your boat. i have mine for sale, but i won't dump it cheap. if the right deal comes along on a new boat, then i'll own 2 boats before i sell mine too cheap.

Dredge, I,m in the same boat , as the prices go down on the new boats with rebates and special finance the used go down with them, sooooo , do I buy now? and wait til spring to sell my boat or go the trade in route in which case the dealer will be going by market value (which is low right now) I have been out of the market since 1988, has anybdy seen it like this in recent years?, AND Just like in the car business HOW do the manufacturers get off of the rebate money back bandwagon, One day you walk in and it,s 10K back on a new Formula next day it,s not ,would you still Buy,???? As much as I want to get a good deal on my new boat I,m going to have to face facts that as a seller I,m going to have to rethink. One of my reasons for looking at Fountain WAS the resale, last spring you couldn,t find anything for 49K now they are every where
