It is easiest to remove the 4 screws that hold the shifter assembly to dash and lift out far enough to get to the cables. It's a 10 min job. Might try the swap, I lost no speed.
Mine is a 32'.

Thanks for the heads up, weather permitting I will give it a try this week. BTW what kind of power are you running and is your 32 a stepped or unstepped hull? I am told the speed difference is significant on the step and not so on the normal bottom. My 29 is a new step hull.

Looked at the shifter system, no problem to change it in position just like you said. Before I do tha I will just switch props and shift backwards to see what gives with the speed and handling. Let you know what happens.
