I have a 2000 29 on a steel Myco ... I estimate the weight to be >7000 #s.
I had an F150 with the 5.4 at first...... it pulled it okay but it was slooww to get moving. Then I got an F250 PSD .... pulled awesome ...
Now I have an Excursion with the V10 ... pulls great ... mileage sucks.
I would go for a 3/4 ton. I think you will be pushing it with anything smaller.
We were looking for a 2500 Suburban before we got the X. The 3/4 ton Suburbans are hard to find around here and they are much more $$
I was able to find tons of X's at great prices ... Anything with the V10 or PSD is a 3/4 ton.
I got a 2000 Limited with DVD/TV and other extras for less than half fo what it stickered for new. I think they are the best bargain out there for a late model tow vehicle.

Twinn29,
Towed our 29 single around with a Chevy Z71 1500 p/u and it was weak on braking. I kept the surge brakes adjusted properly but it still pushed the p/u all over the place. With a 29 twin, you really need to be looking at 3/4 ton suburban.
We now have a GMC crew cab 2500HD w/the Duramax. It tows our 35 without any problem.
