42 Lightning
#1
I have read the past years posts on the 42's as I am considering an upgrade. I wanted to find out how much of a difference there is on the 95-98 models and the 99-00. Interested in real world experience of speeds on staggered vs. non-staggered, steps, quality, Fuel consumption, etc. Any help is appreciated.

95 was the first year for the step bottom, reggie played with the location of steps alot from 95 to 98 the bottom under the 42's havent changed since 98 they are a what they call the super ventilated step bottom have noticable taller steps and or actually about 4-6 mile per hour faster than the earl step bottom the 98-2004 or basicly the same boat with the exception of windshields. there or tall deck and classic deck boats the tall decks have the tall windshield or a rounded race fairing, in 2003 three they offered a lower windshield option on the tall deck. on all of the tall deck boat regardless of staggered side by side or triples the engine compartment remains the same along with the deck the cockpit space rermains the same also, on the classic deck if you order side by side's they move the the rear seat back 15-18inch and gives you more cockpit space. with 500HPs the 95-98 will run in the mid to upper 70's with the 98-2003 with 500's upper 70's low 80's staggered configuration may get ya a mile or two in big water, triple engine boats 95-98 500's will run mid 80's to low 90's 98-2003 triple 500's high 80's to mid 90's hope this helps, and by the way i have a 98 with the big steps and the classic deck for sale with 500's
