Default Need Engine recommendation for '84 10-Meter

Experts - I own an '84 10-Meter with 250 original hull hours that needs new engines. She originally came equipped with Gale Banks 630hp twin turbo's. Her SSM II's and trannies are newly rebuilt with 0-hours.

To be honest, my first preference is to sell the boat 'as is' because I just don't have time to use her - thus, the need for new engines.

But what engine is the best replacement? I'm interested in 'high performance reliability', not top end. I'm being told that either remanufactured 502/500hp's or 540/600 hp's are the ticket. Prices for the long blocks range from $6200-9500 each.

Any suggestions?

Mshea: Do you still have the original twin turbo Banks engines in the boat? Iwould like to see some pics. I have a pr of 588/750+ hp hawk engines complete from oil pans to flame arresters that I might be interested in selling. They are a spare set of engines for my 10 mtr, but they are nat asp, not supercharged. They are currentlly apart for inspection and possible piston swap for superchargers. Just trying to make a decision here. I would like to talk to you about your boat as I also have a 89 10 mtr that came from the factory with Tom Gentry twin turbo 950's. I just learned how to post a pic yesterday, and put a few on the Turbo 475 post. Call me at home 708 579 5434 Frank

Frank - sorry, I don't have the original twin turbo set up. It was swapped out a few years ago when the engines were rebuilt as normally apsirated 454/500hp's. Aparently, the original ownere tired of rebuilding/replacing the turbo units due to lack of use. From what I hear, the boat was a real monster to drive as well!

mshea; I'd still like to talk to you regarding your engine situation. I have a few options that you might be interested in. Call me I'll be up late. Frank
