ladder pulls straight out and then has 3 steps that lay flat inside one another. Donzi uses this style ladder and ordered mine from the Donzi dealer. i then cut a round hole in the under side of my swim platform to gain access to the back side and was able to put a aluminum angle as a backer plate, then used a square aluminum tube as a spacer to clear the transom and then bolted through ladder flange, spacer, fiberglass, and angle inside fibergalss platformed. after all was secured i installed a round inspection cover over the hole, like what they use under the rear seats for the sending units. Other then the exhaust rattles the ladder at idle and you have to keep it clean as of the exhaust soot have had no problems. and i dont have any bolt heads on the platform side.

i saw a 42 once that had the aquastep retractable ladder installed under the platform he used swell nuts to attach it to the boat. i didnt feel that would hold up, was afraid would pull through glass.

Later..........Very well engineered. On the Sonic, the bottom of the swim platform is flat all the way to the outside outer edge. I did'nt realize that Fountains S/P is recessed up about an inch. I just seen that this weekend at Shogrens new openhouse in Waukegan Ill.

I like the pie eye inspection cover to cover the access hole. With that, you dont have to drill thru the top of the S/P. VERY NICE !!!
