We just went through this Ex versus Lightning thing in January. For us it turned out to be the Lightning was the right boat for the following.

Loved the look of the new shorty tinted windshield
Not a huge fan of the classic, like the intakes of the lightning versus vents
Cabin height, I am 6.1 and can sit in v-berth. Ex had to tilt head
My honey really liked the topside deck walk around.
Built in ladder in Lightning deck was another must...gotta listen to my honey
And last and definitely not least....Twin Steps, not yet dialed in and seeing 82 with 5 people.

You will love either one, just get them both on the water and one will fit your needs.

The hull on the 35 ex differs from the lightning in there being only one step. The hull of the 42 ex is identical to the lightning, matter of fact they come out of the same mold! They use a twin step design.

funny thing years ago the classic decks were called the lightning then the windshield boats came along in 98. and some were along the line they started referring to the lightning as the classic deck and started calling the windshield boats the lightning. they have the same bottom classic verse lightning just different decks. although you can order a classic with side by sides and gain 15-18 inch of cockpit space you cant get the cockpit space in a windshield boat by ordering a side by side go figure. those are the boats windshield and all that could benifit the most with the cockpit space. They say the staggered are faster in real world maybe 1mph splitting hairs. for what you give up. i havent seen much if any difference on the big end, either way ther both awsome boats, im an avid fountain owner with logging close to 700 hrs with 2 of them over the last 8yrs.

Summer Heat what power and props you running and were do you boat?

Later,

We are out of Dale Hollow, TN. Love the hills and clean water. We might tug her over to Lake Cumberland and check out the damn and race area's once the debris clears out, but are true DH fanatics.

We are running a couple 500 EFI's with Brave 30's on right now. She comes up on plane pretty darn nice (watch for blowout around 2500 out of the hole) but am only getting 5000 wot. She is coming up on her 20 hr. and I might play around with some prop's after that.

Love the all white hull, you have a beautiful boat. We almost went that direction, Marti (my boss) saw the Plasma and really dug it. It's funny how what starts out as a used boat venture turned out.

I was in the market for a Fountain about 3 months ago and I was comparing the Lightning to the Executioner, and it turned out that the differances are (in the 42' model) a ladder, a little bit more head room in the cabin, and the intakes, the biggest differance is that you can have the short windshield on the Lightning, but when you have to pay extra $$$$$ for the lightning compared to the executioner, the executioner is a much better deal
