I recently took delivery of my new 42 Lightning equipped with 1100/1350 HP Sterlings with dry sump #6 outdrives.
The boat is a performer, ran 130 MPH with 4 pounds of boost on pump gas at the factory. Reggie ran the boat himself and he put his forged Herring props on the boat that he set the record with.
The boat was gelled yellow and I will send it to the paint shop after Labor Day weekend. The new cabin door and higher freeboard on the 2005 model are really nice. This is my third 42 Lightning and it is really sweet.
Also, Fountain has really stepped up their rigging efforts. The boat has both mechnical and electric fuel pumps, a single (large) sea strainer for both engines with smaller Stainless Marine strainers for the Intercoolers.
I am in the process of ordering some 16.8 diameter 35" pitch Herring cast props for the boat. With race fuel and 7.5 pounds of boost I should be able to see the high 130's to low 140's with this boat.
Pretty impressive speeds for a stock 42 Lightning with a cabin with big power.
I will posts some pictures of the boat and engines after the weekend.
Happy Easter Sunday

The purple and yellow 42 with the 1100 HP Cobras ran in the low 120's with a set of cast 16.75 diameter 34 pitch Herring props. The purple and yellow boat also had a full cabin. The 2005 model is rigged slightly different and appears to have more room in the engine compartment.
BTW, Reggie wanted his forged props back. they are rather expensive.
