5k more for Myco Trailer
What is everyone's opinion.
Go with Vanguard or spend 5k more and get the Myco? New 42 Executioner. Thank you. |

Well you have a Fountain so second rate should be good... :D:D:D:D
JUST KIDDING...don't throw me overboard, trying to have fun here... I have a Myco and have had others... They are worth every penny |
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
5K buys a lot of gas. Myco's are great trailers no doubt about it though.
I guess it would depend on how much trailering (distance) I figured I'd be doing. And how easily I could afford it. |

Greetings GLH... :drink:
I'll still be in front. |
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
Hummmm $200,000 for a new Executioner and the difference of $5,000 for a greater insurance policy. I guess it would depend on how much trailering you will be doing.
"Formula Outlaw" At $2.25 a gal. 5k would buy a little gas. Let's hope they come down soon. |
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
5k is alot of money, which translates to about 40% more. Is it worth the hassles and all the additional BS if you go on a poker run and the damn trailer brakes down, been there done that. Spend the money, the last Alum. trailer I got from Myco was the best, had over 15k miles on it in less than a year and not one problem. I am about to order another one, great service, and Bill is a good guy. Jeff

Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
Dave did you check into Manning trailers?
|
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
Myco...nuff said
|
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
I would get the Myco.
|
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
What kind of trailer does vanguard make? Steel, aluminum? I've been looking for other than myco that does welded aluminum, non bolted together. Does vanguard have a website?
|
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
Had alot of different ones thru the years. There were some good ones but not as good as the Myco. I wont own another brand anymore
Myco all the way |
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
I agree that you should check into a Manning. They are much closer to you, build a strong trailer, and costs less than the MYCO (probably more than the Vanguard).

My thoughts are Myco first and Manning second. Do the research. How much trailering do you do. Electric over hydralic is a must. Here is a picture of mine and it is a manning with Marc Blondin.

Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
Steel or Aluminum?
|
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
pull it in style..... myco
|
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
Steel-I will search for website.
|
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
I've never had problems with any of my trailers and none of them were Myco's... My only problems lied in the dam tires blowing out... :D
I guess it all depends on how much towing you'll be doing and I've always heard Myco makes the best... |

Myco all the way Completely agree.. I have a float-on for my fishboat and have used many different trailers. Myco is well worth the $$$. You get what you pay for and we are not trailering inexpensive boats around. |
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
what a bunch of BS on a beat to death subject...
trailer breaking down? what about it? Kodiak disc brakes? Axis or Dexter axles? Dico or Tie down coupler/master cylinders? The lights? all common vendors to all trailers these days. So what's left? What's the real difference in the ancillary parts? Little if any at all. The welded or bolted argument for 5K? O.K. so again like so many of these threads, if $ no object why ask and get the Myco. Otherwise get the aluminum and save some seriou$ dollars. If your not the type to regularly look the trailer over you shouldn't be trailering anyway. On an aluminum flyer, specify all stainless hardware and a couple extra bunks in the right places. That's all. They don't come unbolted going down the road. They are typically put together with all nyloc nuts...they don't back off. Though on the one I had I would check them all anyway a couple times a season. Never got anything on them. I found the Towmaster I had to be dependable and cosmetically low maintenence. |
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
Worried about not sitting properly and developing a hook after several years of being on a trailer. I don't do alot of long distance travel.
|
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
if the bunks are cut right for the bottom, and the bunks extend beyond the transom, this isn't going to happen.
The whole hook thing is a bit overblown. Look at all the racked boats. Do you think a majority of these rack bunks are as properly supporting of the boat bottom as even the least supportive (junk or misfit) trailer? |
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
good point sir.

The main reason i got the Myco was they are a (according to Rippem) manufacturer that deals directly with the boat manufacturers, other trailers are purchased by the customers, the Myco is made from bluprints to fit YOUR boat. the first time I loaded onto my Myco from the water on sunday, the boat sat perfect, first try!!! that can't be beat, proper support is the most important. Myco I believe is the only manufacturere that makes custom lift cradles as well. How much of the 5 grand will be left after you have to have the hull redone from bunks set up wrong? Less hassles at the ramp was a great benefit of the Myco. Call and Speak to Bill Tweedie, you wont be dissapointed...Rob

Do you think a majority of these rack bunks are as properly supporting of the boat bottom as even the least supportive (junk or misfit) trailer? most racks are junk, but if i was getting a brand new boat and it was going to sit on the trailer all the time, it would be sitting on a myco.... and most trialer builders do source their parts from the same vendors, but every myco i have seen seems to be put together one notch above most trailers... is it worth 5k? i guess that is up to the one with the checkbook, but on a 200k boat i would do it.... |
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
I guess 5k might come in pretty dam handy for gas then?? :D
|
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
and if you're not entirely happy with the fit of the big cypress bunks to the bottom of the boat...an afternoon of adjustment and whitling will achieve perfection, requiring only basic skills.
I would never spend the jack for anything more than a basic aluminum if I was not putting down alot of road miles. Like back and forth to Fla. every winter or something. Which is where I'd like to be! If it's mainly just gonna be a service trailer for haulouts and winter storage the inexpensive trailer is perfect. |

-velocitypwrbtr"At $2.25 a gal. 5k would buy a little gas. Let's hope they come down soon." Sure wish we had those fuel prices :( still can't understand why so much out here even only 80 miles from refineries  |

If a short afternoon is a weekend's work to you...yea, you should have a Myco. :p And this is all conjecture based upon the fit to begin with. Have you owned both custom and aluminum trailers? say...two to four of both? I have. The trend on this board is that it's easy to spend other people's money. |
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
Do you see cheap in my sig pic?
Oh...I forgot you have a Cigarette. I'm out. I'm sure Downtown will do the right thing based upon his pocketbook, and his real-world needs for a trailer. :D |
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
Myco are the best but I'm with Rippem....I'm turning a wrench if need be and using a "knock-off". 42 ft aluminum Fastload w/ 8 1/2 inch beams, S.S. hardware, S.S. disc brakes, 6k lbs torsion axels, 20k brake assembly, 3k jack stand, 16 inch radials w/ matching spare. Price was around 7k. used the trailer for several boats and never had any problems. Is a couple hours of your time (only if needed) worth 5k???
PS The trailer listed above was fine until someone T-boned it and it was totaled. Current trailer is just as described above wxcept shorter to fit the current boat. |
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
yep, ahve owned fastloads, easy loaders and a couple other off brands, I checked into them when I was buying the tiger, and I spent my money on the Myco, he asked for opinions, and he got mine based upon my research, I wouldnt tell someone to by a Myco if I didnt own one.
As far as an afternoon of doing the work, your right, my time with my daughter and enjoying life is much more valuable than having to fine tune something that should be done when you purchase it. I certainly can justify 5K for perfection, the point is how can you justify 7K for something that kind of fits? |
Re: 5k more for Myco Trailer
I had a Myco and it was a great trailer! I would suggest shopping around for a better deal on a Myco. When I bought mine it was priced very competitive with other trailers.
