If it was fraud by the previous owner then you should tell them in a timely matter so they can take any legal recourse available to them.

Agreed...
Safety should take priority. Motors not what they said, hull a knock-off then maybe just bite your tongue.

The best thing that I have found to do in these situations is tell em what you know, if they argue then leave it alone. You aint a friend if you don't try and tell em though.

It's not a friend of mine, just a guy I met.
But I'd have to see the boat to make sure its the one i'm thinking of.
Also, its not a safety issue.
Since he aint on the boards...
The boat was advertised for some time as a pantera. It was brought up in the pantera forum a few times, and it is not a pantera. It has the wrong VIN numbers and other details pointed out by Jo and Pepe themselves.
It's just the guy thinks he has a pantera and its not. That's all.
He seems pretty pumped with what he's got. I really don't want to spoil it for him, and its not like I'll really see him ever.
He only paid 7-8k for it, so he probably doesnt have much recourse w/ the previous owner. And that guy may have thought it was a pantera, unless one of us from here told him otherwise.

One last question. How can you register the boat as "pantera" if the vin# on the hull isn't?

Nobody said friendship is easy.
Gotta tell them.
Just start with "Man, this boat is really awesome, but..."
