Carion Marine FM/CD question?
I have the Clairon marine FM/CD unit and it get's horrible FM reception. I bought a heavy duty universal antenna to replace the wimpy one that came with it and it still gets terrible reception. I bought a Sirius satellite plug & play unit with FM modulator that transmits the signal to the clairon unit via fm and that sucks too. What could be the problem here? There's two power cables running right behind the unit to the amps in the cuddy, would this cause interference? Or could it be a defective unit?

Re: Carion Marine FM/CD question?
I have a clarion system in my boat with no problem, If I remember right the ant. on mine is hook behined the radio to a factory wire that runs around to the side of the boat, not really much of a ant. I have a fm mod.xm radio and we just tried it to see how far another boat could pickup my signal, he could hear it about 50 ft away. sounds like you may have something else going on.

There's really nothing else wrong with the unit except for poor FM reception, which also makes the satellite radio fuzzy. Come on stereo gurus, a little help here, please...

Re: Carion Marine FM/CD question?
The new Clarion marine radio is compatible with Sirus and therefore no fm modulator is used. This allows for far better sound quality.
Regarding fm reception, your solution will vary depending on the type of antenna you purchased. Try grounding the base of the antenna. The amps have nothing to do with poor reception. You may want to try a strip antenna.
