Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
Storms are starting to line up and were still 2 months from the active season. If this goes like last year the insurance companies will be pulling out of Fla.

Loaned my trailer to a buddy for a week..now into week 3 & my boat sits on his lift. I want my trailer back by Friday so I get my boat off the lift. If we have another bad year, we will be screwed big time by the Ins. Industry. |
Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
Indeed, the tropics are becoming active once again. It's coming, no doubt, let's just all hope that the storms are weak and stay away from our coasts and cities. We can't afford another year like last.

Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
Anyone from the North that has plans to eventually retire here can forget it. They wont be able to buy or afford the insurance if we have another year like last.
|
Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
Insurance would be a concern, but if the storms hammer the east and west coast like last year, there may not be anything to retire too!!
|
Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
Yep. I'm keeping an eye on this one too. You never know which way it'll turn.
After being in the path of three storms last year I have a new found respect for hurricanes. We also found out just what supplies we need to survive for extended periods with out electricity. A generator would be nice, but it's not in the budget. I hate hurricane season! |
Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
Ahhh, screw it! I've got my 6500 watt generator, 2 new window A/C units, my .32 pistol, and 190 Gallons of gas for the gen. I'm ready, :evilb: all I have to do is pull the Nordic off the lift and put it on the trailer and haul it to Orlando and we should be fine! It's part of life in FL.
We will all be under the "Citizens" Insurance pool run by the state of Fl. just sooner than later! :( Actually, I'm suppose to head to Ft. Walton Beach on Monday, when Dennis is projected to hit Penesecola about that same time. Dean |

Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
I got my gen last year at HD too. 6250 watts for $499. Starts first pull everytime.

Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
The way I look at it, complaining about it won't change a thing. I hope for the best, and prepare for the worst. The only other option is to move to North Dakota.

They were saying on the news this was the earliest we had four named storms.
Oh boy.......  Maybe I'll go back to Maine for the summer. But it would only end up snowing over Labor Day.....  |
Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
My trip to FWB next week is looking like it might be postponed!

Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
Why is it aiming for Orange Beach ? I still don't have all the boats fixed from IVAN last year!!...Rick

Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
Now saying it's project to slam into Pensacola as a Category 4 storm.
This as of eight am this morning. It is a MAJOR storm. It's going to wreak absolute havoc where ever it lands. Good luck everyone. Nick: thanks for keeping us updated with the "Nick Report". Russ |

Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
You got it, Russ! :)
This is one scary looking storm! Cat 4, still strengthening. Godspeed to those in its path. |
Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
In a bizarre way I hope it moves west like northern Mexico.. I need the RAIN. And the new boat is being built in Pajama City and don't need the these problems at the factory. Destin Poker Run and all the rebuiding from last year between Gulf Shores and Pensicola is not complete. Really sucks for that area

We rode out Frances @ my sister-in-laws place last year in O'town. All her big trees were taken out by Hurr. Charley, so I can feel pretty confident that my boat/trailer/truck will be pretty safe there. Dean |
Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
They say this could be worse than Hugo...which is what we in the Carolinas remember!
Best of luck to all of you and be safe! |
Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.

Thanks, I have a good friend who owns Ft. Walton Beach Yacht basin, (1 of the of card stops this year for the Emerald Coast Poker Run) who is just getting his marina back up and operating! I've tried calling him all day, but I can't thru to his cell! Dean |

Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
I had Debbie tighten down the covers on the boats at home, though I don't think we'll get anything there, but then again, that's what I thought with Charlie last year.
|
Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
Cuda,
As you know, you can never be too prepared. Our shutters went up 4x's last year, all a month after closing. In all Charlie was basically the only threat for us (Bonita Springs). Unforunately others are still reeling from last year  |
Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
Its not gonna be pretty I can tell you that if it hits Pensacola. I spent almost 3 months there with Jason and there was TONS upon TONS of damage there. A friend of mine said it the best I believe.. he called it wholesale destruction. Should it hit that area, or anywhere really badly(which is a gurantee at this point) I will be headed up to the area with my bobcat and gear to help out. Jason has already called me and said he was going to come down with his loader and is possably looking at a F650 to lease and bring that with him. If someone up there should be hit directly, give me a call and I can help start the cleanup process. 407-463-9664 (cell).

Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
I still have all the plywood from last year! But I am up in Michigan for another few days. :D
Watching the NOAA website and WX channnel with trepidations! |
Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
It's bad when your whole state is in the path of a storm.
Gary and the boys got the race boat and the rest of the Nichols team on the road to Birmingham this afternoon. We're just sitting here at Fire/Rescue getting ready to ride out another one and watching a cloudless night and flat seas...you know the quiet before the storm. Nothing like finally getting your station roof fixed from last year and putting it to the test already. Not to wish anything bad on someone else, but we're hoping for a some crazy currents and a 90 degree turn to the west. Best wishes to the folks on the western side of Fla getting some nasty weather right now, be safe and hold on...we sure are!! Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
it is slowing down a little as it kicks the living $hit out of Cuba.Maybe it will calm down a little before it visits Orange Beach this time. You can't find gas ,ice, propane, etc. in Orange Beach now . We are stocked up & ready to ride it out again....if not ,I'm going to visit magicfloat on Smith Lake!!!Rick

Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
Been raining pretty hard down here off and on since around five pm. Couple of real "gully washers". No wind to speak of though.

Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
this storm is gonna be bad... the forecasters are beating this horse to death though...
i sure hope it doesn't hit fl or anyone for that matter , we still have people without power from that storm a few nights ago. |
Re: Well Fla. here we go again and early too.
