Default Generator Impeller Problems

I have a Kohler Generator that is going through impellers like crazy. I'm on the Potomac River that has some hydrilla. It seems that the least bit of hydrilla that gets caught in the strainer and restricts some of the water flow, kills the impeller.

My question is, does any one make an impeller that will not heat up so quick as the Kohler ones do? Or have any other suggestions on this subject.

My stainer works well and catches the hydrilla. How about a screen on the water intake on the bottom of the hull? But I think this will also restrict water flow if it is caught.

A passing boater said that he herd of an impeller that was blue in color and would be more temperature resistant. He did not know the name of them...
