Should there be a speed limit on the water??

Our local SML paper is taking a poll on the left side about having a speed limit on the water. The lake residents are fed up with the loud boats and they are rumored to want to post day & night speed limits. This paper is taking a poll for them... not telling you how to vote but if you would just vote for us it would be great!!

Any guess on how high we think we can get this? 100 looks easy... but we should be able to see much more than that, eh?

Re: Should there be a speed limit on the water??

One more vote No, with the power of Offshore only we can keep that scale way off. Remember we just went through the same situation in NJ and with the NJPPC we fought them down and squashed the 30 mph speed zone on the bay.

Re: Should there be a speed limit on the water??

NO!

215 No, 41 yes.

I hate to say it guys, but speed limits are coming. It might be 1 year or 10 years down the line, but I believe they will come. :(

I believe we're all currently in our hayday on speed. I don't know how many people I have told over the last couple years but all its going to take is for one 'Cigarette' boat to be running and a fuking lake lice pulls in front of him and gets killed. Even if it's the personnal watercrafts fault, if the driver of the performance boat says '...I was going too fast to turn...' we're screwed!

With the popularity of these personnel watercraft and inexperianced PW operators now, the above senario is just a matter of time.

Ask yourself how many times did you hear the term 'noise regulations' 10 years ago with regards to boating?

For what it's worth - Just my 2 cents

Re: Should there be a speed limit on the water??

Let's all remember why this poll came around and make sure we don't give the "slow down" camp any more ammunition to work with. The best thing we can do to avoid speed limits is to police our - and our friends' - behavior. If I owned a cruiser, I'd be hard-pressed to vote "No" after what happened there. As it is, I don't boat there, so I won't vote.

Besides, didn't most of us agree that night-time speed limits made sense?

Clay Washington 09-01-2005 11:02 AM

Re: Should there be a speed limit on the water??

OMG! The "Yes" camp has made up some serious ground. Sorry guys... :(
