according to a Merc Mechanic they yse the champions because there the only plug that doesnt allow any interference with the ignition system, all the others they tried have issues

I had a pair the first year they came out. I had stalling problems at idle around the dock. Changed plugs several times with no success. Finally ignored the mechanics and the manual and gapped them to what it called for on the decal on the powerhead, problem solved.

It has been several years but i think the mechanics and manual said 24-26 and the powerhead said 32-33. Not sure how much has changed but that is my 2 cents.

BTW- you are welcome to post egg beater questions here, I even own two of them but don't tell anyone.

Ouch ..ya it seems once they blow up there good for nothin..Ive been lucky and have found new ones for around 2K.
Wish they had a beefier unit for outboards as the powerheads just keep going and going and...
