Unfortunately Fred - AKA Too Old - Trick - Cost the industry plenty, hurt a number of venders, changed the way suppliers in the industry do business and in the end cost the consumers by guaranteeing higher pricing on products. I know he burned a few people here on the board and that's what finally flamed him but what he did that was most damaging was burn a number of manufacturers real bad. Fred tried running a retail business with no overhead, a tall order and a broken business model.
It was all good when he paid his vendors but he eventually got too bold or too greedy and bit off more than he could chew, that's when things fell apart. He quietly convinced manufacturers and suppliers that if they didn't offer him preferred pricing and extend credit that their competitors would take away their market share. He spoke well of companies when talking on the boards but talked tall tales of deceit and poor quality and failing distributors when you spoke to him in person or on the phone. He played companies and people off one another all the while coming across as the good guy on the boards so he could sell more product.
He made claims that my company had a biker gang working as muscle to scare off and intimidate him. It was a great story if it weren't so laughable. In the end he was no different than these other confidence men, just another cheap conn artist with a line of BS. He was no friend to industry and in the end had no love of the sport.
