Next round of stupid questions:

1. What if it turns out that 2" is too high and need to add a 1"
spacer, what else then needs to be changed

2. How much "should" a shop charge to take my XR gears out
and lowers off and put everthing back into the new shortie
case and back on to an upper ?

1. You'd have to get a 1" longer vertical shaft.

2. By the hour... :D

Bob- I'm going to make a few calls tomorrow to get this group buy together. I haven't done a group purchase before, but would imagine it's based on commitment. The more guys with their credit cards on the table, the better the price.

Probably set a deadline date when everybody's order needs placed and paid for and then the order goes in.

How am I doing so far? :D

I would think a few hundred, I might be off. Not sure what else is out there, I'd just stick with IMCO, make it easy. Then you could just re-sell the other shaft(s) in case you had to go this route.

The spacers I've seen come with a longer
connecting coupler, ( what connects the upper
shaft to the lower shaft) to take up the difference
the spacer adds, so no need for a longer shaft.

That's correct. If you need to add a spacer, you won't need to purchase a new vertical shaft. Just keep in mind that drive spacers are fairly pricey themselves.
