Everyone can help! It doesnt matter if you live in Alabama get involved and make some phone calls! Guys, this is serious. It is backed by Alabama Power and Russell Lands. Get on the phone, it's easy, A secretary answers and all you have to do is tell them you are opposed to SB487 or HB756. Call many times, get your friends to call. Each day the sec tells her boss how many calls came in. We can beat this but we need to let them know how we feel. Please, take this very seriously! IF YOU HAVE NOT MADE THE CALL, NOW IS THE TIME TO DO SO. READ THE PROPOSED BILL BELOW, CALL YOUR SENATORS. WE NEED TO FIGHT THIS NOW. THE NUMBERS ARE LISTED SO THAT CONTACT IS MADE EASY. AMIA Legislative Alert # 3 March 16th 2006 A substitute bill has surfaced that is being pushed by Alabama Power. It has grandfather wording that allows houseboats to remain in place on the lake where they are located so long as they pass annual inspection. They have upped the ante and included the following as the new language. (2) Beginning three months after the effective date of this of this section, the use of recreational vessels greater than 26 feet 6 inches in length and rated by the manufacture for or capable of a top speed in excess of 60 miles an hour shall be prohibited. (3) Except as authorized under subsection (d), beginning one year after the effective date of this act, the use of recreational vessels greater than 30 feet 6 inches in length, as determined by the straight line distance between the ends of the boat, excluding bowpeirs, outboard motor brackets, rudders or attachments, shall be prohibited. We must concentrate our efforts on these senators to try and head this off. The opposing forces (Alabama Power) are acting like they have the votes to pass the substitute as drafted. Going back and contacting those senators we have already contacted needs to occur as well. Senators Roger Bedford 334-242-7862, 256-332-280, 256-332-7709. Jeff Enfinger 334-242-7885, 256-533-1155, 256-332-7709. Jimmy Holley 334-242-7845, 334-670-3765, 334-897-5181. Wendell Mitchell 334-242-7883, 334-244-1877. Hinton Mitchem 334-242-7876, 256-582-0619, 256-498-6600. Myron Penn 334-242-7868, 334-775-9778, 334-738-4486. Gary Tanner 334-242-7894, 251-639-2134, 251-661-4741. Byron McCain, CAE Executive Director Ph. 205-322-6400 or 205-802-7551 Fax: 205-250-7252 MAKE THE CALL TODAY. IT ONLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES.

Just curious... who owns the lake? Is it public or private property?

All 11 Power company lakes are public, they actually belong to the Federal govt, which is you and me and everybody. Power company leases the waterway, builds a dam to generate power, and they control the shoreline as far as boathouse specs and such. The water is in the hands of the marine police, but the state legislature can pass any law it wants to and marine police have to enforce it. Now that we have established a personal gain motive,we believe we can stop it. The power company can't afford a public lynching over this. All along they said it was about sewage dumping and shoreline erosion. Now we know it's all about money. Of the 22 models of Formula boats,18 would be illegal I don't get upset very often, but they are messing with my business and my hobby,as well as my customers.

Ok thanks.

I wasn't sure how that worked on those lakes.
I remember some issues with the TVA... yours sounded similar.

Good luck.
