Thanks guys, by the way, Vonwolske:
I never answered your question as to what distinguishes our cats as ours. First of all, All of our cats have a body line that runs down the freeboard, following the line of the boat. Secondly, all of our cats, right on down to the 15 1/2' has a deep "offshore" tunnel, making it good in rough water Thirdly, the buckets (cockpits) of all of our cats have more room (both standing and sitting) than do cats of equal size. Hope this answers your question. Adam ;) |
Very good story Adam but Im with spark some how when your dad tells the story theres alot more humor and color to his history , Im glad to see it was told thanks!
|
Adam; Thanks for the synopsis. Please edit and add some approximate dates.
Also, add some paragraph indentations. All in all, a good job and interesting reading. If I ever get up your way, I will stop by. Are you going to Miami in Feb? |
Holy Crap!!!!! This thread lives? It's like a freakin' zombie. Just when you think it's dead, it rises up again. :D
Sean :) |
Adam,
I am curious what does your 38' with stock 496Ho's and XR's Cost? (Ball Park) Not that I am interested right now but My goal is to one day get a big cat. I have mainly looked at eliminators in the past and have a good Idea of what the 36 runs - cost wise But because of your closeness two me I would like to know. Also I keep my Powerquest 380 at Sassy's Marina and go by there quite often maybe I could drop buy and see what you have to offer. - Ray You may e-mail me if you dont want to post a price. You guys that like my dads version will have to forgive me, as he was actually there (and young!) while I was just starting kindergarden. Vonwolske, forgive me but english composition wasn't my best class, just be glad it's me and not my brother or dad (or you SPARK!) that wrote that article, otherwise you wouldn't be able to understand half of what was written, as none of the above were exemplary spellers.
As far as Miami goes, my dad will be down there on vacation (and I'll be up here...on vacation! Starting the first 49' hull) so look for him. Bye all, A ;) [ 01-28-2002: Message edited by: Adam Focht ] |
by the way adam, you were right . . .it is mis-spelled on my card . . .its physicist not physicsist . . .you'd think i would know that :D :D :D :p :D :D :D so you are the exemplary speller in the family, huh.later

|
Is that it ??? This thing can't just end like that ?? ...Isn't there another OSO Express cat pot-luck dinner planned or a help name Greg's boat party coming up ?? come on guys... don't leave me hangin' like this !!!!
Hi Uncle Gene !!!! :D |
jimkid i gotta tell ya,"settle " is pretty lame thing to say.this thread was set up for people who enjoy their boats. the owners have not SETTLED on any thing, they own an ocean express because it is a great boat. Ross Focht has played a large part in making cats what they are today an for you to insinuate that they are some sort of second rate boat is just wrong. just curious what boat you currently have now because its always some guy with the latest copy of "PowerBoating's buyers guide" that makes a comment like that, or are you just "holding out" for the skater(please  ).i personaly dont own an OX but i know many who do,and i am smart enough to know that there are many different boats for many different people.
|
Hey glassdave, take it easy on the guy, everyones entitled to their opinion. Hey jimkid, when did you go for a ride on Steve's boat?
Adam ;) [ 01-31-2002: Message edited by: Adam Focht ] |
Hey Adam. I just got done reading , THe King Of Thunderboat Row. Its there understanding that Don A . Cut a 36 Cig down the middle added 3 feet and built a Cat Called the USA Racing Blue Thunder. 39 Ft. and Sold many of them to the US. Customs Service. Ive never seen one. Check the book out. For some reason I thought Betty Cook Ran one of these at one time... Don Aronow definately helped make boat racing what it is today... "Cats Rule"...
|
yea Adam , i guess your right. everybody's intitled to there opinion.this just was'nt the place for that kind of comment, ya know.   what happened to your original post
|
hey badcat check this out
blue thunder thread i did a post on that very same boat not to long ago.i have some pics that another OSO member sent me. i can e-mail them to you of you'd like.  |
I didnt mean to get any one upset but i also went out in 31 ox with sunny gande did not like the ride boat porposed at around 55mph then lifted with a little more speed just an uneasy feeling and i know that they cats do that but some of the other ones dont at least not as bad also boat leaned to the outside bad which i know is a trait of cats but some just do it beter by the way i had 34 magic deep vee with 540s ran high 80s have a28 skater on order and have been in a couple 36s skaters just awsome boat if you cant get one dont ever ride in one you will never forgive your self
|
Glassdave, I "edited" that post because... everyones entitled to their own opinion.
Hey jimkid, next time your in our neck of the woods (summertime) we'll take you for a ride in our 38' - Twin 750 blower motors w/ arensons, 125mph, and it runs in the roughest water you can handle. At least compare apples to apples, our 38' is our latest gen design (like the 36' is skaters latest gen design!!) Our 31' runs good but consider that it was designed almost 15 years ago. I take nothing away from skater, but I will say this, there is no other cat company that builds today that has as many boats on the water still running around at 100+ mph. Take a look at some of the older skater 40's and see what type of condition that there in.(or how about finding a 24' thats in as good of condition as some of our 39's from 20+ years ago!!)Also, you say that you can make two trips to our one??? How about this, you can equip two of our 38' with the same power package as a 36' skater and not spend the same money as that SINGLE 36' skater. So in all fairness, we can seat 14 people to your 5, at the same speed for the same money, or buy one 38' equipped the same way and put half of the money that skater wants back into your pocket. Chasin the deal is a testament to how well a 14000lb cat thats almost 10 years old can handle the most abusive water conditions there are with 7 people (and a cabin!) and still be running today with NO STRUCTURAL REPAIRS EVER DONE TO IT!!! ( I would know, I've been thru every nook and cranny on that boat dozens of times and I can't believe it myself!) The King of Thunderboat row was an excellent book, but as far as that goes, he cut an existing boat in half and turned it into a cat. My dad lofted the plug, pulled the mold and built a complelely composite / cored cat before anyone else. Although shadow came right after him. And I do believe your right in that Betty Cook ran one, because she ran against Motor City Magic one of our 33' race cats. Later all, Hey glassdave, be sure and come up next week with Tizbad! Adam ;) |
Hey Kid you were a little harsh on Adam. Those Cats have a fine pedigree. Personally I own a 30 Spectre w/blown 509s. I have owned and riden in alot of different cats including a 36 Skater. There awesome. But I would never have said THAT.. Were all Cat lovers here arent we ??
Hey Glass Dave Id love to see the Pics of Usa cat if you have them E-Mail them to me if you can Thanks... Did you enjoy the book as much as I did?? I couldnt put it down.. |
That book was the best thing I ever read !
Hey Adam I have that movie ,"Fast boats and beautiful women " . Pretty cool ! Can you tell us a little more about it ? And who is the guy driving "Jaws" ? Are there any other movies or what ever on your boats ? As far as the Skater thing goes .............. That's just plane rude ! Skaters are great ,Yeah . But like you said your comparing a new design skater to a 20 year old design boat . Lets see how it goes with the new design OE . And for a guy buying a 28'er  Shouldn't be knockin a 48 !! I have ridden in a few big skaters too and I wouldn't knock them . But as I said before , I have seen a couple newer skaters with similar power to mine that that only ran 5mph faster then my old dinasour 39' Express ! I know they should have been faster then that but they were not . |
Im glad that im not the only one who thought that. People can buy and enjoy whatever they want. I felt it was harsh....
Especially when the manufacturer was taking the time to educate us about there boats. Theyve been around a long time. I have alot of respect for that. High quality product.. I like Skaters as well. As a matter of fact My good friend is about ready to take delivery of his new 46 Skater "LICK THIS 4 " early next month. Check it out at www. the-artofdesign.com Boat portfolio. It should be awesome. Those Sterling race motors should be a treat.. I more excited than he is... My some of you race guys that have been by the factory have checked it out..  |
Dennis kaiser was the owner of Jaws, he was a partner at one time with our company, and has owned several of our cats in varying lengths as well as a 45' skater also called jaws that he and a good friend of ours (Dave Wesseldyke of Wesco Racing Engines) set a kilo record in. I have seen it a bunch of times where a lighter skater with bigger power than we had was behind us at several different poker runs because of the water conditions. People should understand that there is an inherent strength in being a little heavier as long as there is a balance between strength and weight and with us there is due to the materials we use and the experience we have in using them. We have looked into everything as far as material goes from wet-preg, vacuum bagging of epoxy and s-glass to pre-preg, vacuum bagged, autoclaved laminates costing tens of thousands of dollars per roll and as far as were concerned, there is no better material at any price for the type of boat that we build, and I think with all of the boats we still have running around out there that I'm safe in that assumption. But, with a forum like this, and being in our chosen business we set ourselves up as a target for armchair quarterbacks and couch engineers of all sorts. You take the good with the bad, and that's that!
later all Adam ;) |
ten pages . . . . :D  . . . .thats cool    . . . .an i think it was jimkid that pushed us over :D thanks dude.
hey Adam ,I will be up soon.cant wait to see how ya do'in on the first 49.we are starting the paint on tizbads(reno) 39 tommorow.gonna be cool.i get to use my artistic license on this one. next break in the action an we will be up. |

onebadcat, the link for that paint shop was great, a ton of cool pic's, and by the looks of the quality of the work your friend made a nice choice of peeople to have do the paint work. Wassup adam, bout time you got on this site, you should type in the O.E. web page for your homepage, a quick link to stur up some more intrest in O.E. for all the lurkers out there...
|
Hi Guys...Just checking in to see whasup. Can't let O.E. get too low on the postings ;) Stay warm ...Hey I hear Detroit area got lots of snow instead of that "rain ice sleet" garbage.Driving Thursday and Friday was a bear. Lights were out all over town and people that are used to having stop lights have trouble converting to a four way stop system! No wonder there are so many autobody repair shops Heh.
|
Hye ROB, good to hear from you, haven't seen you in a while. How are steve and donna doing? As far as our website goes, over the next month or so its going to undergo major changes (i.e. take a step into the new millenium instead of that old boring crap!)So when its finished, I'll have links from here and from the smokeonthewaterpokerrun.com site
later Adam ;) |
Well paint & graphics are on one side :) cant believe how good it looks, I think someone put a new boat in the shop when I wasn't looking!!!! I guess 2 1/5 months of work is payin off. And as far as structure repair on this 19 year old boat there is none!!!!!!!! Thats right NONE!!!!! GREAT boat!!!!! You guys really do build a solid piece. See ya next weak Adam probably Wednesday.
|
Saw Tizbads boat for the first time at the first of the year, and now I saw it this weekend(3 times, I don't want to where out my welcome) When Greg says somebody put a new boat in the shop he isn't kidding. EXCELLENT job Dave, that side looks fantastic. Scarab owners never die!!!!!!!!!!
|
Sylvester ,I have 1.32 ratio with 17 1/2 x 31 or 32 " 4 blade mercs ,labbed . I don't have a whole lot of experience with it yet do to engine trouble but it seams it might like an inch or 2 more pitch with my power . It has fixed drives and planes easy with 8 guys and 3/4 fuel .Runns right up to near top rpm's with little trouble . Haven't held it open yet ! :D
Hope this helps a little . Feel free to ask more . JOE |
Hey Greg. Congrats on getting graphics. Call me when you and Dave are going on the road trip.
|
Thanks.....Boot that is the same set up I have same ratio only my drives are trimable I was thinking I would be in the 17 to 18 x 31 to 34 pitch the only other difference that I noticed was your drives are mounted on the slant and mine are straight up and down....................John.
