37 outerlimits

What is your opinion on a 2002 quad step 37' Outerlimits with #6 drives. Good and bad. Handling, drivable, cruising.
Thanks :D

I'm not an expert on OL's but I've heard from many that you want to buy their 39 and up boats. The fact that they no longer make a 37 might tell you something - or not. Like I said, I'm not an OL expert.

Re: 37 outerlimits

The quad step 37 is pretty rare, I think only about 9-10 of them. Mike said its because the cost associated to build that is close to the 42. The boats run very fast, you have to run tab over 100-105 or so. Rode is one for 2 summers. I have also ridden in a 42, they were quite different.

Re: 37 outerlimits

The boat is awesome in rough water. Cruise speed is around 65 or so. The boat is a very nice riding boat up to about 105. We ran the boat 112 however it was a hand full, chine walked pretty bad. This issue could have been fixed with first smaller diameter props and a gear ratio change, 2nd option would have been to move the drives down a tad with spacers. Mike said the boat was tested at the factory at 117, but we never saw that. If you are referring to the OL Shogren has, this is the same boat I am talking about. Its an awesome boat, and attracts a lot of attention so be ready for that. For the money he is asking, it would be hard to find a better deal.

Dream yes that is the boat. Do you know the guy who rebuilt those motors. Scott told me that the pushrods should be replaced with better ones. If you have his info that would be great.

The 37 is a great boat for the money. Will run with the best of them in the rough stuff

The fact they don't build them tells you nothing. The 37 was the first boat built by mike. WIth mike being on the cutting edge devolped new bottoms and diffrent models and still does it with the new 46 and next up the cat and ??????

Maybe it was the operator. I owned a 37 with Bravos on boxes and 750hp per side that I put about 400 hours on it. Absolutely loved the boat so I bought another 37 with #6s and 1050hp per side that I have logged about 120 hours on. You will be hard pressed to find another 37 that will run with this boat in the rough stuff. I am certain that it will be a huge step up from your BAJA.

It,s not cost effective to do a smaller boat. Thats why Mike dropped the 37 GTX.

Enough 4 Play, I have a 33 PowerPlay now. :D Just heard so many stories about these quad steps. Which bottom do you have. single or quad.

I guess thats possible, but never had a problem with any other setup. I am almost positive with the correct setup the boat would have been different. Of course you can bury the tabs and the boat will not get out of shape, of course when you do that the boat also slows down. How fast did yours with 1050's run?? What props and gear ratio?

Single step on both boats. Test drove a 33 Power Play about 10 years ago that had the props rotating in, it was the most unstable boat I have ever been in. I got out of it and decided to buy another 32 Active Thunder.

This winter I was kicking around the idea of buying a GTX and was making some calls. A couple of dealers said that they would not mess with the 37 and go straight with the 39.
They said the difference between them was just night and day - more than you would expect out of boats just two feet different in length.

I'm sure the OL 37 is as good as any 37, but since no one was responding to the poor man's request for input I figured that I would. I realize that there are far more informed people out there than myself, but there's just something about a Fountain man giving his opinion on OL that gets the pot boiling :D

No muss, no fuss. Our 37 kicked butt on the F-2 circut. Reggie beat us a few times when it was flat stuff but we lapped him a few times in the rough. We never hooked, spun or stuffed and we won quite a few when the competition spun in the turns. Enough said!

The 37 OL is what this whole Outerlimits phenomenon is all about. Ask 99.5% of all OL owners today why it is that theay own an OL and it is that they dreamed of one day owning a 37, weather it be a twinn step or a late model quad step, period...

OL are awesome boats, but I would bet it was seeing XXX and the other bigger faster types in the front at Poker runs that inspired people to want to own an OL. Not the 37's that were a mile behind the leaders - that they no longer make.

Take the beak and swim platform off your 38 Fountain and you have a true 34 footer.

Of course a dealer will say go for a 39. Probably $150,000 more!

The 37 is a great ride for the money.

You can call Dave at WES CO in Michigan. Shogren had the boat delivered over to Dave's shop to check the boat/engines out for him back in Febuary. I believe the engines were originally built by Keith Eickert. Like I said, call Dave and he will give you the scoop. 616-662-2250

I think you all are talking about 2 different animals the single step vs quad step. I have ridden in both and if set up properly they are both great rides. Personally I like the quad step better. It seemed to ride flater, I rode in the one you are looking at from Sunshine Key to Key west several years ago when Oliver had it. Great ride, six guys full of fuel, and no bow rise at all getting on plane. I have read that you want to be pretty careful turning the quad step though. Good luck, it is a sweet ride.
