Pre-owned, make sure you have a good surveyor and proper tests completed on engines and components then a good sea trial w/your surveyor. Put up a deposit in an escrow acct and don't complete the transaction until everything is to your satisfaction.

My last boat I tried to buy new.....and I'm so glad I didn't.
The boat new was 62k w/o a trailer. I was prepared to buy. The dealer didn't take me seriously and said I was too young and was wasting thier time. Pissed me off so I left. One the way home I passed a brokerage yard, and found the same boat 1 year old on a trailer with 38 hours and 10k worth of upgrades. I asked how much, guy said 40k.....I said SOLD.
take a look at boats that are a year or two old with low hours. these boats usually have all the "new boat kinks" worked out, and have been upgraded in some way.

First power boat, BUY USED, you will probably ding it a couple of times, and you won't feel so bad. Plus you won't take the biggest hit on depreciation. Stay on this board their are allot of great deals to be had and allot of great knowledge.

Pre-owned. I bought a new boat in 1998....NEVER will I pay for a new boat when you can save $10's of thousands on a clean, low hour pre-owned boat.
