Re: Early 40' Cig's Raceboat ?
Is that the old C.A.M. boat ?
|
Re: Early 40' Cig's Raceboat ?
I have a radio controlled boat hull that matches that 40' Cigarette exaclty. I got it from England about 15 years ago. It is about 84" long
Wow, I had no idea what hull it was based off. Good paint idea's now. thanks |

Too much different in the deck. It is a 40'(40',5") for cruising builted maybe in the same year of the firsts 40' race boat. The salt air sure has done a job on her though. Here is the Hull I.D. pic. also. Re: Early 40' Cig's Raceboat ?
Donzi. If your decoding is correct(I don't know the I.D systems of Cigarette)it exclude that was the former "Bounty Hunter" and the "Sunoco DX-CAM2",because they just exist before.
It can be the former US-1-UFOII-Limit Up but it's went in England. The last knew,"Slingshot" went in Australia..... |
Re: Early 40' Cig's Raceboat ?
One of those 40' builted for fast cruising only.

Re: Early 40' Cig's Raceboat ?
Eitherway, that is a great shot w/ some very cool boats.
|
Re: Early 40' Cig's Raceboat ?
Performer! This phantomatic copy of Cigarette factory was of Bill Elswick at least!
I remember the "Night Moves" and the publicity of this Performer said was a 36'....with the appearances of a Cig. 40' but with a different "wheel house". Now this fast cruise version but however the same appearance that the same of the Cigarettes..... Can you help me to know something more of Performer? |

Re: Early 40' Cig's Raceboat ?
The boat right behind the 40 is a 38 Bertram "49er", the first Bertram made of "Kevlar 49. The brown Production boat in the background is "Boogie Bear", a 30 Corsa. :D

Re: Early 40' Cig's Raceboat ?
Anybody know if Al Copeland ever raced a 40' cigarette built in 1980 with kevlar hull named Popeye's with a quite different "round" deck? If so is there any pics out there?
Regards Joern |
Re: Early 40' Cig's Raceboat ?
That boat started out as the Cigarette factory race boat for Billy Martin, called Bounty Hunter and it was a 39 foot boat....it was sold to Michel Maynard and run as Fayva Shoes and then Copeland bought it.

Re: Early 40' Cig's Raceboat ?

Re: Early 40' Cig's Raceboat ?
Thanks guys, so it is not the prettiest Cig buildt but whats the "catch" since it has been for sale so long ? Did it ever race and how is the 39 hull compared to the old 36 wide body and the 35 racing vercion?

Re: Early 40' Cig's Raceboat ?
Not pretty? I think it´s beautiful. I understood it to be a good rough water boat. Is this the case?? Did it weigh as much as much as a house?!

Well Littlenige, I did not mean ugly but quite different from what at least I am used to se of Cig from the seventies. Actually the boat as "Bounty Hunter" is quite spectacular with great color-scheme. A little "european" style with the foredeck. I assume the boat on the enclosed top pic is the 39' and the lower pic is a 35' race boat ? Wonder why we get confused..

Re: Early 40' Cig's Raceboat ?

Top Banana, is it safe to assume that :
"Bounty Hunter 1" was a 40 ft Cigarette "Bounty Hunter 2" was a 35 ft Cigarette "Bounty Hunter 3" was a 39 ft Cigarette, kevlar with round deck also does anybody have a adress or tlph number to Billy Martin ? Reg Joern |

Dean's Slingshot was two boats: the first was a Cig.40' that raced in 1977 in Key West World championships like in the pic above, then he bought a new 39' sister boat of Nordskog's Powerboat Magazine pitured in the post by Littlenige. This one was lenghtened in 1979 by Dean to 44' and became a Dean Special 44',still named Slingshot and raced the World Championships in Melbourne in 1980 where Meynard won with the wodden Cougar 38' Fayva Shoes, because was the only driver (together Toleman)to come in Australia with a cat where alls thought that the waters of the Melbourne Bay would be rough. |

Re: Early 40' Cig's Raceboat ?
About 6 months ago I tracked down the current owner of the atlantic highlands cigarette. I talked to him about the history of the boat and I determined fairly quickly that he was out of his mind. When he told me he was asking 20 grand for the boat as it sat it confirmed he was out of his mind. I nicely told him that he would be lucky if someone would take it and he could never get 20G for a boat in that condition. I later got a call from his daughter who said she tried to tak to her father and explain the real value of the boat and he did not care. Oh well....I guess it will rot right where it sits.

The same thing it happened to me some mounths ago when I asked to the owners of the old Cigarette 36' Lady Nara(the famous winner of the CTC in 1971). Those guys shot 120.000 euros(over 150.000$) complete with a couple of igniominous diesel engines..... Only few years ago the same guys wanted 38.000$ for the same unselled boat. The power of the rising vintage..... |
