I thought she must have heard it wrong, so I listened. The next lap he was clocked at 162. It was only a couple years ago, these would have been record speeds for a v hull on a kilo run, with engines designed to last just long enough to get the run in. Now his race boats are running those speeds. I've never understood all the Reggie hating on Oso, yeah, the hair dye and the gold chains are a bit much, but damn, he is probably the most recognized name in offshore powerboating, basically a living legend. In short, you can believe if anyone had a cat at the run that could beat him, they would have damn sure been giving it their best shot.

There is a boat out there for everyone. Whether its Fountain, OL, Cig etc. As long as OL and Cig dont run head to head against Fountain you have to give Reg some credit. They created a V unlimited class in SBI/APBA and who showed up? Fountain! OL showed up witha rig in KW and cryed and complained that they couldnt race and also put their tail between their legs and went home in 2004 for the kilo runs where they were invited to. Until you can get the big 3 to show up at one site at one time the mystic will always be there. I guess that what keeps selling boats for OL and Cig. They are great boats by all means, but why cant they show up for compitition. They always have to run by themselves with GPS numbers, never at a sanctioned event. Whether Fountain is the better boat or not, at least he shows up.

You know that they are going to say that it was Reggie's home waters when he set the kilo record, BUT its the only time in recent history that there was a public run that all were invited to. The other boats run off air force bases in private, or in the ocean on gps off RI in the middle of winter in private. Reggie might brag a lot, but EVERY thing that he has ever bragged about, he has backed up on the water. and he never writes cry baby letters about how fast the other guys were running. :D |

Let's see a start at 40 mph to get the real answer.. Now for the aszhats that say it should be on a closed course yes and no. Once in open water it's the real world.. I've been in serveral poker runs, and it ALWAYS at some time turns into a race, soo. shut up... :p |

Reggie Not Wanting Mike to Play And for the record, it was not just the OL that was turned away. There were a few boats from other manufacturers that wanted to run in that class as well. All denied the chance... :( But you knew that..... :drink: :D :D :D |

Ok........
I tried to stay away from the keyboard....but... Some call this Marketing ? :confused: At what expense? I wonder how many people in that Poker Run or future Poker Runners will not return now because of this... :( Was this even announced that this was going to happen at the Safety Meeting prior to the Run? It may be hard to believe, but there are people that do Poker Runs for the fun of boating together and they do not want to participate in a race. Reading that a fleet of Poker Run boats were idling through a No Wake Zone and suddenly have a Race boat pass them at hi speed would certainly shake a few people that had their families out for the day on the run. Sure, someone will bring up the NY Run. But in years prior, it was announced that there would be a challenge of 1st to the Bridge. They also had a separate start for this. As of this year, after the Safety Summit in Miami and the Insurance Companies decided to lay down the rules, the King of the Hudson has been eliminated from the NY Run. Will this be a trend throughout the rest of the Poker Runs? Was the Insurance company for the Jax Run aware they were insuring a race? Being as it sounds like from so many people that this was pre-planned. Or perhaps "if" an incident occurred, the Insurance Company wouldn't have been liable to pay out because they weren't insuring a race. I'm not taking any credit away from Fountain for what they have been able to get that Vee Bottom to do, but if they want to challenge people to a race, than do it in a proper manner. He had a full opportunity to do it at the worlds last year in Key West. Why were they so afraid of competition then and would not let other's compete in Super Vee Unlimited? Oh yeah that's right, a World Championship Title was at risk.... :rolleyes: So he went out and beat himself without even completeing one lap... I will go out on a limb here. With the confidence they have now, and Reggie will need something spectacular to bring people to Key West this year, I predict an Open Invitation to race him in Key West this year! If they haven't already planned that, then maybe they should! It certainly would be worth advertising and watching... May the best team win! :drink: |
