you guys need a lession in fountain. the juily 1990 issue of powerboat mag . on june 9 1990 new orleans la opt popeyes racefest . fountain skinned the worlds fastest CATS in a lesser poweed v bottom. the cats had 4 engines, reggie had 3 . don johnson usa cat. al copelands cat , all 4 engines and got blowed away by reggies v bottom. if some body has that mag please post it. so some can read it . i think time is repeating it's self agin . :cool:

Fountain1fan your HISTORY reference might be correct. That was a case of race V's against race Cats and congrats to Fountain on that. I don't think the question is how fast Reggies new boat is but more about how and where they decided to market it. There is no question they have current world Kilo record. The video composed ironically by Creative Television proves what point to targeted buyers? A race boat can beat open top poker run boats? I doubt many "new" to boating buyers walking around a boat show will buy a Fountain just because a video says they are cat killers.

There was a race in Puerto Rico that weekend I think and there were some race cats there running in the rough stuff like Reggie wanted at the end of his infomercial. Why did'nt Fountain take this boat there and show up with another one like it with the top cut off set up for poker run use in Jacksonville? If the two boats would have "killed the cats" then this claim would have some ground to stand on. Build an open top version of the boat and run against other open top boats.

With any luck for all of us maybe we will get to see all the V's run in Catalina and settle this battle for the time being. Catalina once a year for the title. What a concept.

No doubt. Fountain please show up to Catalina and Lotto. Run your race boat against other race boats and see what it can do.

Thanks to Reggie is looks like we don't need to have SVL - SCL, SV - SC classes anymore. All the cats and V's can run together since they're equal again... :rolleyes:

p 1 reggie owns the v bottom record at 171.883 . reggie :drink: did make one pass at 177 and change . the speed racer is some where around 174 + you ill have to ask sr .

The 174 mph at the poker run was on Pump gas, Low boost, and 38's. And an open cockpit.

Remember the boat has more boost, good gas, and more prop to go.

I can vouch for how good it feels to have the wind in your hair at nearly 175 Miles Per hour. I just am glad that Randy is an amazing driver.....Made it a wonderfull experince, even at speed.

I can't wait to see what "SR" does with the boost turned up, and race gas in the tank....and the 40's on it. :) Randy is gonna have his hands full then....

Tim, he wasnt concerned at all. Mike knows the rules and he decides to disappear in the middle of the night before a certified kilo run or just show up and think he is just that special, that SBI/APBA will bend the rules for him. Believe me, when he stops these PR stunts or people get wise and he actually does show up and race(within the rule book), his boat sales will drop. 1) Reg will shut down the plant just to make sure everyone is working on that boat and it is perfect. 2)He has too many ponies in the stable, including himself, to lose everytime.

This isnt a knock on Mike or OL, he puts out one of the most awesome boats out there, but please Tim you are an asset to our sport and I for one appreciate what you do for us as racers, but you might want to call your buddy Mike up and refer him to www.superboat.com and look over the rule book. Or just tell him to refer to randy's old posts. Believe me, EVERYONE, knew you had to run 2(two) races to be able to run KW. Mike is a marketing genius, but him not showing up will wear thin with the public pretty soon. Why dont you invite him to the kilos in NC or better yet lets save him some fuel, why dont you tell him to join us @ the NYC race. There's your 2 races and he will be qualified for KW. Evryone keeps taunting Reg to show up @ LOTO and Catalina, why doesnt everyone taunt Mike? I know who will win, but I guarantee a great show!

I am not about to rehash that all over again,
We all know Reggie's boat had just as many starts for that class as the OL and the other Manufacturers did.

Bottom line, Reggie's boat didn't follow the Rule book either and was allowed to idle across a start line with a boat that had shrink wrap on the bottom of it to keep it afloat for a World Championship Title... :rolleyes:

That's ok though.... It's only a matter of time this will all be settled..... :drink:

Reggies speed was very impressive!! That is very fast for a V bottom "RACEBOAT". Speed Racers speed is also very impresive for a "PLEASURE BOAT". I would love to see Reggie put his "RACEBOAT" against a cat "RACEBOAT" like David Scotts Budweiser Select or Callen!!! I love to see a race on an even playing field!! It would probably be more exciting if the other guy knew he was going to race Reggie so he could be prepared! Hopefully we can all see a FAIR race soon so Reggie can impress us further!!

I don't care whose faster......what I don't like is this race ready BS...I grew up on a lake and have been in the ocean several times. When a boat pulls up next to you, you go. Wide open is wide open.

Randy Kent#5 Speed Racer from EBM - 9- 05
It just seems to get bigger and better every year. This year we were really looking forward to setting a new record. As it goes, the boat had it, driver error kept us from it. On our first pass on Saturday, Randy Scism was throttling for GC Motorsports as well as for me in Speed Racer. GC Motorsports went 5 boats ahead of Speed Racer and I found myself waiting on Randy Scism to return from GC's first run. When we finally got to the starting line and Randy Scism started to throttle, the boat wouldn't come up on plane. I looked at the tachs they were only at 3200 rpm on the sticks were mashed all the way, I suddenly looked at the boost gauges and noticed that they where pegged at 20psi. Randy Scism noticed that I left the trim tabs all of the way down, My Bad! You see, If I don't lower the tabs all the way down the boat will idle it 18 mph and cause a big wake. I simple forgot to raise them before the run. Smoke started to pour from the shifter console and smelled like melting rubber. After raising the tabs we hit 141mph. Having no time to go back and check the belts we got right back in line. This time Speed Racer started to hall ass. Half way through we lost all boost on one of the motors, we lost a belt because of the previous run. Although we still hit 154mph at half track, Speed Racer would have done 170 plus easy! But we will have to wait for next year to find out because Sunday we found that we had computer problems. Do you believe in fate? Something was telling me it just wasn't meant to be...hopefully next year. RK

In my book Speed Racer is a race boat with out full canopies. Weather any of you like what Fountain did, like Fountain boats or not Reggie Fountain is getting a heck of a lot of publicity and keeping the Fountain name on everybody's lips. Good PR lesson.

Some people obviously don't understand the concept of what it takes to maintain high HP blower motors in a PLEASURE application. We go to poker runs all the time with the boost down and the "docking props" on a friend of mines boat. It is ridiculous to go to every run at 10lbs of boost and 1400 HP when you know what can happen. We are just as happy at 4-6lbs of boost hanging back with around 1000HP. :D

Some people may have endless pockets and not mind being down most of a summer because of running wide open all the time. Most people I know go to poker runs for fun not to race. There are always several people that are there to race, those are the ones that make it dangerous for everyone else. There are plenty of race circuits they can participate in, be it the one that Reggie bought :eek: or one of the many others :evilb:

I understand what you are saying about boost and race gas and 1400hp to 1000hp. but if you drop the hammers when someone pulls up next to you....no excuses. It was your decision to run. Most important issue here is, HAVE FUN, run hard and keep your passingers safe.

Besides the closed cockpit, how different is SR compared to Bud Select or Callen? Just because he has a $50K++ paint job instead of numbers?????

Why is this so hard to understand. The V showed up with race engines on full boost making 1550 hp per side. The Speed Racer Cat may be the same hull as the race boats however with an open cockpit. Driver and passengers were not aware they entered a race. SR was running pump gas at around 1200 hp per side. The cat passed the V twice! Clearly was faster using less horsepower. Because it was not on the trash video the V must be faster right? In what real world are pleasure Fountains passing the big cats at Poker Runs? In what real world are the Super V's outrunning the Super Cats??? In fact at Poker Runs I have been to, the fastest V's seem to be the Outerlimits. I personally have a lot of respect for Fountian powerboats, they are very fast v hulls for the money.

Like my Dad would say "Even a garbage truck will go fast if you have enough horsepower".

You saw inside the engine compartment on Rio??? You must be the only one, because I don't believe the hatches were ever open on that boat.

You know what boost SR was running? Really? did you count the teeth on the pully's, top and BOTTOM?

Point being, NO ONE knows what HP thes boats were running except the person that set them up.

Did you not read the other threads? I give up... the V guys are masters of the water and from now on all Fountains will now blow past MTI's. Because Sir Reggie says they will. :D

exactly (records)by the way are not even close to the cats and he spends alot of time making adjustments and changes to the bottom and air dynamics to make sure hes the man breaking records, that by the way are not close to the cats records, I have not yet seen any pokerrun version (specially not the pleaser versions) run as fast as THAT race boat(RR), and if you think that his race boat RR is like his pleaser versions? I have a bridge under water for sale cheap...you guys cant be for real...People say that he has the 200 mark in his eyes but you guys dont realize that the cats have been there done that long time ago .........please

I would still like to see a list of his race records and see how many times he raced with no one else in the class and claimed a title, and how many races he ran where the only manufactured boat in the class was a Fountain....

I think that would speak for itself... ;)

cats, cats, cats....the only cat to run 200mph or better is a Skater or Callan and they have not done it often or for a long time.

at least its more than one brand, not only fountain (RR) can run those speeds. The new one that is.There is no vee execpt FOR THAT PARTICULAR BOAT (RR) has accomplished that. Not even there please version is close......I cant wait to see him hit that 200 mark that people are saying he looking at so that he can see the the cats are still faster.......what he should do is 230 mph so that the bar is set real high so that no one can get it, becuase cigerette almost got him( I know almost is not close enough but hey cig is closer to him than RR is to a RACE CAT RECORD HOLDER LIKE HIS BOAT IS thats for sure).Also why doesnt he run the old RR or his older boats like the old record holder are so that he can really compare apples to apples old technology versus his new.
